Bauer .25 acp

Attractive and seemingly well-made, mine couldn't get through a single six-round magazine of factory ball ammo without multiple (I mean multiple!) failures. In fact, it would rarely cycle two rounds in a row.

As I posted earlier I'm fascinated by mouse guns but they all weren't as reliable as the ones I previously mentioned. Two come to mind: a Sterling Model 302 and an FTL Auto-Nine. Both were chambered for .22LR and both struggled to successfully fire more than two or three rounds per magazine. Have to say they were well made (the Sterling was all steel while the FTL had a steel slide and aluminum alloy frame), and they seemed to be solidly designed as well. I believe ultimately though that something that small has to be built to such incredibly close tolerances, that even the smallest of errors would cause things not to work right or maybe not work at all.

I bought one new in the mid 1970s. It was the single worst gun I've ever had. I was friends with the gunsmith who owned the shop where i i bought it and i brought it back to him numerous times to tinker with it and polish it, but despite his best efforts it would hardly ever shoot more than once in a row without jamming.

Pro (singular): it was tiny.

$200 for a quality .25 acp is a good deal. wish I could find a Bauer or 950bs for that in my area.

Why in the world would you want a .25? You can get a actually functioning excellent reliable tiny .380 for that price.

My stock answer to statements implying a .25 ACP is worthless is that 95% of the guns in my collection are never carried except to the range, so whether or not it's a 10MM or .45 ACP, or a pellet gun for that matter, it's not a valid point. I recognize that many people only own one or two guns and perhaps only 9MM to .45 but many of us own many, and many own even more than I'm blessed to have. Heck I even have one of those Pedersoli's that shoots a lead BB using a shotgun primer. It's Definitely not a man stopper! Many of us are fascinated with any firearm, for history, for just collecting (The rush from looking over an iconic old classic for instance), and not least, investments.

Oh OK. More power to you then. I was just looking at it from a practical utilitarian point of view.

Because the 380s (and I already have those) are no where near as small and the 25acp is far more manageable, easier to conceal and repeatable.

Is that what I just said sounds like to you?

I guess I'm just a little weary of all the people who jump into so many threads assuming the subject gun is for self-defense. Your suggestion to go with a .380 implied exactly that, since "utility" is pretty much the most-common reason to buy a modern, "tiny" .380. On this board, it's not the most-common reason to buy a Bauer or Beretta .25 caliber pistol.

Ran another box of 50 American Eagle through the Bauer today. No malfunctions. Action was filthy but again no failures. Seems I got a good one. I like this gun and it ties with my Astra Firecat as my favorite.

I own too many "mouse guns" and that is due to being born in NYC and having a bad upbringing that involved hanging with too many who carried one of the mouse guns.

So Beretta 20,Baby Browning,NAA .22 LR & Mag, High Standard O/U .22 mag [ 2 ],and I could go on !.

But never have I fired ANY .25 auto that did not function perfectly, even a Sterling Arms that I am sorry I sold.

btw = I only carry any of them as a BUG [ or even a 3rd BUG ].

Where were all you guys when I was trying to get rid of my Bauer?

Jerry - I don't think a 9 is really that much more effective in a tiny pocket gun than a .380, and the ,380 is a lot more manageable and maybe more reliable and more compact and lighter too.

So, it's settled then: The Bauer 25 is cool and fun, and makes a fine backup. It's also inadequate, perfectly adequate, easy and difficult to shoot, unreliable and reliable. And a 9mm is no more useful than a 380 in a tiny pocket gun.

...ok, I kid.

But seriously, if your Bauer is not reliable: 1) get some decent mags from precisionsmallarms. 2) keep it very clean and use a good synthetic lube because the stainless on stainless can gall.

Sorry, but forgot to mention the Bauer that I got at too good a price to pass up.

About 2 years now to the month, shoots great but a royal PITA to try and cockit, don't want to carry it with a round in chamber.

My Bauer is long gone thank goodness. That was long ago. As i said i kept bringing it back to the gunsmith where i bought it as i was friendly with him. He spent a lot of time messing with it, polishing the ramp and i i don't know what else. i don't remember if he had other mags to try. No matter what he did it would shoot once and then get stuck. Worst gun i ever had. It made my Kel-Tecs look like Glocks by comparison.

I've also spent money on GS's trying to get a small auto to fire reliably, it's frustrating as heck because every dime you spend throws the economics of owning the questionable gun farther out of whack.
