A city dweller on a 50x100 lot in a neighbor hood of the same, Mr Skunk is a frequent visitor and my love able but dumb dog doesn’t have enough sense to keep his distance. Nighttime back yard visits are becoming a chore. Winter is here, do skunks go into hibernation. ? Other wise Im going to have to come up with another solution.

I had one come barreling at me a couple years ago. No idea what it thought. Me and my dog were out and it came from about 300 yards. 200 yards I was going over my options by 100 yards I gave up hoping out would turn. I was in the middle of a clearing. I finally shot it my 300 mag around 75 or 100. It saw me and was in rush to get to me. Very strange behavior. Luckily the dog didn't go after it. Was the first she had heard a big gun though. She was a pup then. She ran off and I didn't find her for 30 minutes. Lol.

I've caught probably 100 in cage traps. They like tuna. Lol. Throw a blanket over the trap and they don't spray. Of the nearly 100 ive seen 2 spray in the trap. One was ok until a friends son was letting it eat pizza out of his hand and threw the slice in and hit the skunk.

The other had sprayed in the trap before we found it. Another critter may have harassed it in the trap. Idk

I've seen people feed wild skunk with honey buns from their hand. Seen them as pets as well. I don't believe they like to spray. Probably hurts their eyes and nose too

My oldest in the same city, different neighborhood does have a “havahart trap” he used for an attempt at coon control. I’m reluctant to try it as the neighbors cat is also a frequent visitor. I think the skunk lives elsewhere and has a circuit he patrols.

About ten years ago I was bow hunting, sort of slow walking thru the timber standing next to a tree. Had just purchased new camo clothing and boots....so impressed how well it all blended into the surroundings. Out of the corner of my eye saw a skunk waddling straight toward me. Stood motionless as it came and began sniffing my boots. All I could think about was getting sprayed and burning all my new hunting clothes. Fortunately Mr Skunk was disinterested and waddled away.
