Bedding a injection molded stock

I want to bed my remington 700 sps to help accuracy and consistent POI after first shot. The problem is the the stock is injection molded. I know it would be best to just get an aftermarket, fiberglass stock, but I'd like to keep this one. My question concerns the hollow areas in the stock. I want to bed the action and first ~4" of the barrel, but much of this area is hollow, just skeletonized plastic. Can I fill these hollow areas with fiberglass before bedding?

What should I do?

Carve it out and to keep it rigid use chunks of graphite fishing rod wrapped in a bit of fiberglass strips and epoxy the hell out of it.

Make sure to rough up the inside of the stock and the fishing pole pieces really good so the epoxy takes well. Keep in mind epoxy can be really really heavy if you overuse it.

You can float the whole barrel this way if you want to.

PS, do it right the first time, the second time usually involves an ugly stock or buying a new one. You can guess how I know that.

Man that sounds like a lot of trouble, and a lot of epoxy...and a broken fishing pole haha, any other options?

The epoxy is gonna be cheaper than a new stock. You'll need to fill in the cavity somehow if you want to use the same stock.

Try TAP Plastics, they have a huge selection of tubes and rods in epoxy, fibreglass, and other materials for cheap.

You could also try what we do in school. With our synthetic stocks that have too much foam carved out of the forend, we use the instant spray foam you can find at any hardware store. When you put the acra-gel compound over it, a hard shell is formed and the foam is no longer visible. Make sure you rub plenty of release agent on your action and parts of the stock you don't want bedded (ie. everywhere but the barrel channel). I just pulled a guys stock and action apart a couple of weeks ago that didn't have any release agent on it. It was a P.I.T.A. to get out. I ended up drilling out the action screws and was lucky enough to get it out without any damage. Do it right the first time and you won't have to worry about that.

I have purchased fiberglass rods at the local farm store that were
hot wire fence posts. These were 4 foot and 3/8 diameter, white in color and fairly rigid, as they are solid. About 2.50 each.

Forget the fishing rods. Get the 16 ounce Arcaglass gel cans from brownells, add to Alum or steel pillars to the order. Install the pillars and then glass the action and the first 1-1 1/2 of the barrel unless it is a bull barrel then maybe more like 3 inches.

That will work, if you do not like just the Accra-gel alone add 50% stainless steel powder to the gel.
