Bedside shotgun box that doesn't cost as much as the gun?

I'm sure you've seen the cartoon "cheap, easy, good: pick any two..."

In my last apartment before I bought a house, I mounted two "C" clips under the bed with the top of the C between the mattress and bed slats. The shotgun slipped between the bottom of the slats and the lower part of the clip. Being tight to the underside of the bed, it was invisible unless you had your head down at floor level.

It wasn't "secure", but it was concealed, easy to access, cheap, and dust was never a problem.

IMO, that video looks like somebody's DIY project. But perhaps I'm wrong and you will be able to buy it.

I just prop my gun up beside the bed. When a little dust gets on the shotgun it's time to clean the gun. When we leave or have kids over I just lock the shotgun in the safe.

I gave this same topic a bit of thought recently... I thought that the best cheap solution was pair of generous hooks at the rear of the headboard (or bedframe) that would allow me to place shotgun in a soft case where it was very accessible but out of sight. Stored in the soft case dust and dirt wouldn't be a problem but keeping the popper in the case would eventually cause some corrosion problems if you didn't keep the metal carefully lubed and dried. When needed, the entire case and weapon are pulled free, the case shaken away and you're ready for business.

My last thought on the topic was about the grandkids.... The shotgun would definitely need locking down when they were around. That problem I haven't solved at all.....

That's an interesting idea. Now by soft case, you mean like a soft shotgun carry case?

The hooks can be easily gotten from Home Depot. I did that when I hung my kwan dao on my bedroom wall. :)

Absolutely, a soft cloth case with a simple flap closure. In the years when I wasn't in a marked vehicle (with that standard electric lock on the dashboard) my shotgun slept in the trunk, fully encased in a soft cloth cover. No matter how many times I needed to take it out, that cover was only a moment to remove and kept the weapon at the ready until needed. I also used one of those old Vietnam era soft cloth M-16 bandoliers (the kind meant to hold 8 or 10 twenty round mags). Each pouch held a box of five 12ga rounds with the bottom cut out of the box so each five rounds were kept in new condition. In use, I'd pull the cardboard box then have five rounds at the ready. That bandolier went over my shoulder and was never in the way no matter what was happening at the time. Luckily it was never needed...

Since I worked the streets in south Florida during the height of the party (1973 to 1995...) -coming up against superior firepower was always a possibility. I thought long and hard about my arms and what might be needed... Glad I'm long out of that world.

I never found anything myself when I looked into it. I just bit the bullet and spent more on the safe than shotgun.

The gun racks that go in the window of a truck are inexpensive. They can be cut to the desired length and they are less likely to skin your gun up than a metal hook.

People if your going to own a gun you need at least a lockable metal cabinet. A 24 gun cabinet is $175. If you put it in a closet a thief will have a hard time prying it open. It also provides you with a place to secure medications and sensitive papers.

The Sentry cabinets are far better than the Stack On safes. I can pry a Stack On safe open with an Eastwing hammer.

Pehaps you are referring to an Estwing hammer. I'll give you the benefit of the doubt that you know your gun cabinets better than you know your hand tools. ;)

I keep a benelli propped up in the corner. If it gets dusty, clean it. They also make little plugs that go in the end of a barrel to keep dust out but I never used one. This seems like a lot of work just to avoid cleaning your gun once a week which you should do anyway. Moisture in the air causes more problems than dust. If its not getting packed up properly for long term storage, you need to be cleaning it or lubing it once a week or every other week.

My wife didn't want a shotgun hanging from hooks on the side of the bed (me either), so I just attached some hooks to the back of our headboard and the shotgun hangs there. I'm sure it'll get dusty, but I don't care.

Regarding access - I can reach over the headboard and grab it pretty quickly. It's still faster than being in a box or in the closet, though possibly not as fast as having it propped up in the corner of the bedroom or attached to the side of the bed.

OK, I got my Mossberg 500A persuader for around $250 several years ago, and have since been interested in some quick access bedside storage for it. No kids in the house, nor do we allow them ( we hate kids LOL ) so it just needs to be inexpensive and fast access - no looking for keys or messing with combinations in the dark.

This one looks awfully interesting, but I suspect it costs as much as the gun and they don't have any, which doesn't help:

Get rid of the shotgun and buy handgun in suitable caliber if you don't already own one.
