Did the Homeland defense rifle ban affect belt fed semiautos? It seems like I heard once that since you could link more than 10 rounds you couldn't get a new one. I have no belt fed weapons in my imediate future but was wondering about the semi autos like the AR one I have seen. Did it have any affect? Thanks

I think that the belts themselves fell under the "large capacity ammo feeding device" category. Probably so you couldn't skirt around the law by getting a belt-fed semi auto AR-15 type rifle.

Yep - you may now buy as many links as you want, and link 'em as far as you want!

The rule on belts was that pre-ban links, like pre-ban magazines, could be used to make a belt of any length. But post-ban links are specially marked and those WERE illegal to possess by individuals, regardless of whether they had ammunition in them or not.

Golly, it is nice to use the past tense when writing about that insanity. I feel like folks must have felt about the end of Prohibition, which I was told was also greeted by the same kind of fanatic ranting from the nut cases who thought banning alcohol would solve all the country's problems.

What's funny about belts for linking ammo is that they were legal here in MA this whole time, but the weapons that used them weren't. Now that the ban is over, the weapons are legal but our new state ban doesn't allow new links to be shipped here. Good thing I already bought 1000s for various calibers. :D
