My friend was nice enough to loan me his HK-marked Benelli M1 Super 90 for a shoot. I decided to be a nice guy and clean it for him. Upon taking the trigger assembly out and cleaning it up, I noticed that the ?hammer? intermittently makes a loud click on the way back to locking up with the sear/trigger. It does this both out of the gun and in the gun (racking the bolt). I did not dry fire the trigger mechanism without controlling the hammer. Any thoughts?

It does seem to function correctly, but the click is so loud that I'm afraid something will eventually break.

I'd really like to have it right before I give it back to him.

Super 90

It sounds ok to me. I had one in 1989 and put 3500 rds threw it without cleaning it. It feed trap and skeet loads even 7/8 skeet loads. I wish I still had it. I took it down to our local skeet range and one of the kids down there took it and a bucket of shells. I took a coke can and threw it straight up in the air and he kept that can in the air with 8 rds. unbelievable.

Judging by how dirty it was and the fact that my friend is the one person who cleans their guns less often than you do (ok, maybe you're in that category, too), I wouldn't be surprised if there was close to 3,500 rounds through this one without a cleaning.

The noise wouldn't bother me except a.) I've dry fired and manipulated that gun before and never heard the noise and b.) it doesn't make the noise EVERY time. It's only like 33-50% of the time.
