image.jpeg During initial assembly, the magazine spring let loose before I could see what it looked like assembled. Does the magazine extension remain open at the end or did I do it wrong? Am I missing a piece? I'm used to an end cap covering the hole in my shotguns, but I've never had an extension and I can't find pictures to help. Seems to load and cycle by hand ok.

Hmm, mine has the factory 7-round extended magazine tube and it has the same open hole but not that big. The purpose of the open hole in many of the extended 2-piece tubes is that when you put the extension on, you can run a cleaning rod through the hole and through the magazine spring to act like a guide rod (think of say a PPK or Makarov barrel where the recoil spring surrounds the barrel) to keep the spring from kinking up and popping out between the extension and magazine tube when you screw the extension on.

Thank you! Seems like dirt would get in it pretty easily as is.

I've got an aftermarket extension on mine, but I don't remember the hole being quite that large on the factory tube. I've had it a few years, perhaps they changed the design.....

The hole in mine is about the size of a pencil. Yours looks like it's the size of a finger. Without seeing it in person, I'm assuming you're missing something.

I'm envious. Benellis are awesome. I want a Benelli m-4 so bad!

I'm convinced it's too big. I don't know why, but it looks to be so. I ordered an aftermarket mag extension with a bit more capacity. Should have all the needed parts with it this time.

What you see is the retainer for the spring, and it has a hole to permit use of a plug for migratory bird shooting. The original mag tube cap screws on over it in my experience, but the retainer should help to prevent launching the mag spring when you remove the cap.

On the tactical, the "cap" isn't really a cap. It screws on with a few inches of extended mag above it. I received a replacement retainer today and the hole is about 1/3 the size of the one that came with it, odd, to say the least. I also purchased an extended magazine that fits flush with the barrel and has me now at 7+1.

I see. I'm basing my answer on my ancient super 90 M1. I would want some type of cap to keep crud out of the mag, so maybe a plastic stopper or even a dedicated laser could occupy the void. Good luck!

That was my original thought! If I'm going full operator, crawling through the mud......how is this thing not going to get the feeding fouled up?

There are a few things in this picture.

    1) It shows the new aftermarket extended mag and the tiny hole in it.
    2) It shows the original end compared to the replacement that I ordered.

So odd to me that it came with that huge hole.

I guess you could put duct tape over the hole. I put a +2 extension on mine, no hole.
