Benelli Rifle

Any one know any thing about Benelli rifles . I am looking at a Benelli R1 semiauto in 308 .

They seem decent, if expensive. All the test results seem pretty good and I've heard of no problems with them. For some reason all the ones I see seem to have pretty plain wood on them, seems like they could do better for the price.

I hunt with a Gr.III and a Gr. IV BAR and they have been good rifles, I would think the Benelli would be at least as accurate and reliable.

Thanks . I no they make one of the best shotgunns , just never hearded to much about their rifles .
For the money you think the BAR is a better gun .

Well I don't really know if they are better for the money or not. The Benelli seems to run around $1050 +-, the Browning around $700 +-, so the Browning is a inthe range of $300-350 cheaper. What I would say is that the Brownings are accurate and reliable enough for hunting. I bought both my Gr.III used for less, and Gr. IV used for about the same price, as a new Benelli. So the value comparison is really difficult for me.

If I was buying new I would handle both to see which I liked the best aesthetically, and more importantly see if one fits you better than the other.
Fit and likeing the gun are more important the the price difference for these two.

Best thing about the benelli is you can switch barrel to use a different cal.

It just seems there might be a lot of better choices out there for hunting (both brands and calibers), but that is not what you asked. I have a Benelli Super Black Eagle, and you are right, they do make high quality firearms. I am sure this repeater is of no less quality. Post a follow up i you end up getting this rifle.

I own a Benelli R1 in .30-06 and it is a great rifle. It is not as accurate as a bolt gun in the same price range, but it is accurate enough. I have the synthetic stock and it does reduce felt recoil.
In fact, the rifle actually belongs to my wife. To give you an idea how well it works, carrying my range bag from the truck left more of a bruise on my shoulder than shooting the rifle did the last time I took it to the range.
If you are hunting from a deer blind and will be waiting for something to walk into your feed plot, stick with a bolt gun. If you are hunting in heavy brush (or spot and stalk) then you should consider this rifle.
Also, just FYI, reduced recoil rounds won't work in this gun. There is just not enough "umph" to cycle the bolt.

Hi Woodsmoke, I just posted asking about the Benelli. You have the synthetic stock with conforTech?

If so that helps me decide as I am looking for a new rifle in 300 mag or bigger but being a small guy I would like to reduce as much recoil as possible.

What are you hunting for? Grizzley or Brown bear? get a 338 or 375 winchester
anything else, a 308 or 30-06 will do.....
