I have a Beretta 87 Target and I am guessing it to be around 8 years old. I just picked up the other day. The gun looks like new and the original owner said he shot 300 rounds thru it and I belive him (I have purchased others from him). My question is after familiarizing myself with gun by field stripping and inspecting it I noticed a little movement between the frame, slide and barrel is this common? When I hold it in one hand I can push down on the end of the barrel and it will move up and down a little bit. Any comments would be much appreciated.

I am not quite sure what you mean. On my 87 target I don't get any movement with the barrel at the end of the muzzle by the crown. I don't have any play with my barrel at all in the upper receiver. Fully assembled if I remove the magazine and shake it I have just a little bit of play that I can hear in the slide. It is just barely anything. I am just wondering if it is your barrel weight piece. Mine fits very tightly.

87 target

The barrel itself does not move. It is like you say when you shake the gun there is a little rattle between the cocking slide and the barrel sleeve. On mine i can move it up and down a little while holding the frame and pulling up and down on then end of the barrel sleeve. Is this normal? I would think it would adversley affect accuracy. I havea smith 41 and it it very tight.

Does it have a magazine safety on it like the Ruger's and some Beretta's? I.E. It cannot fire unless a magazine is in it.

I had to go pull mine out. Also I don't think it can be 8 years old. I did not think they were making them that long. 5 years maybe but 8?

Anyway, mind is tight, no barrel movement at all. I shake mine with the mag out and no sound what so ever. Mine was new (10/2005) when I bought it and it has fired over 7,950 rnds now and it is still tight as a tick.

When I do what you suggest, ie press down on the barrel, nothing moves at all.

Mine is just as tight as my 41's so I know what you mean by that.

I suggest you contact Beretta because "something is rotten in Denmark" in my opinion.
