Beretta 92FS mainspring question

Is the stock mainspring in the Beretta 92FS too heavy? It doesnt seem too bad, but I've read several times that people think it is.

I wonder if there is any advantage to reducing its power a bit to lighten DA trigger pull and reduce wear and tear on the mechanics?

Quite a few shooters switch the factory mainspring for the lighter mainspring used in the trigger cocked "D" models with good results.
I never felt the need but did replace the factory trigger spring with a more durable Wolff Gunspring assembly.
Be advised that the Wolff trigger spring will not work with the newer plastic triggers however.

The more reliable Wolff INS unit is a good replacement for the factory trigger spring.

I've heard some people mention ignition problems with certain ammo, and that the D spring it is very close to the edge as far as working with some ammo. I've never found the stock 92FS spring to be too heavy and I'd be a bit leary of using the D spring on a defensive gun. For a range toy, sure.

I absolutely found it too heavy. Switched to a "D" spring before first range test. Its a factory hammer spring out of a 96D (DAO model) so Im pretty sure there will be zero ill-effect. Try it, you may love it like I do. So far (500rds.) not a single malf of any kind.

I have 4k rounds thru ,y carry Beretta 92 - not a single lights trike ever.

Between other 92s, probably a couple thousand more rounds with a D spring.

The factory mainspring in a Beretta 92 is overkill. I always add the "D" spring to any new one I buy. It helps alleviate some of that heavy stacking at the end of the DA pull.

D model Berettas are not under sprung, rather F & G models are over sprung when discussing the main spring. Standard sprung Model 92 series and PX4 pistols punch some of the deepest primer hits you will see from a handgun, which is why the D spring trick works so well in the respective DA/SA models.
