Beretta 92G "police only" questions

I have a chance to buy a 92G marked "police only". It's like what the French use, not an Elite.

Is the slide on the 92G's made for the police a heavier slide (like a Brigadier) than a normal 92 or is it the same? I found conflicting info on the web and haven't seen the pistol yet.

Also, is the barrel the same length as the stock 92?

I'm interested in it if it's the heavy slide, not so much if it's just a 92 with no safety.

If anyone knows about the slide please let me know.

As far as I know, there are only two full size slides, the Brig and the standard slide.

My understanding (read: I am not positive) is that the "G" model is the same geometry as the "F" model. As you know, the 92G has no safety. The slide mounted lever only acts as a decocker and returns to the fire position after it is pressed to lower the hammer. The slide on a standard 92G is the same weight as the 92F and the barrel is the same length.

In 1995 the 92G was given the reinforced slide of the Brigadier. This model is called a 92G "Elite" and has the standard 125 mm barrel.

The current manufacture 92G Elite "II" has a slightly shorter (119 mm) barrel with a Brigadier-type reinforced slide.

I have also seen a 92G-SD which has the Brigadier slide, the standard 125 mm barrel and an accessory rail. I guess the rail makes it "SD which stands for Special Duty.

I understand that Beretta also made a 92G Centurian. The Centurain model has a 110 mm barrel instead of the standard 125mm barrel.

G models/Beretta Border Marshal pistols

I think the G models mean the pistol has a decocker rather than a safety. It would work like a standard SIG P series pistol.

I like the Beretta Border Marshal pistols. They have the thicker slides, fire DA only and have compact barrels. They were issued to several LE agencies mainly the US Border Patrol in the mid/late 1990s.

The 92 FS, G and D plain models all have the same slide sizes. The reason I say plain models is that if it is a Elite, Border Marshall, etc it is different.

The safety of the "FS" ruins the gun for me. I'd go for a "G" model though, that should have been the standard.

I agree, all Berettas should have been "G" models. SIG had it right when they gave people a De-cock and no safety. That is the best way to do a DA/SA pistol for self defense IMHO.

I have a 92G Centurian as well as a 92FS. I trust my FS and use it as a house gun but I would prefer it to be "G". My 92G Centurian is a great gun as well. I got used as a Police trade-in and the finish has some wear and the night sights are dim but it is 100% reliable like all Berettas I have owned and I trust it as well.
