i just got a 28" extrema2 with the KO option.

Fired about 125 rounds of 8 shot through it, a mix of estate and federal (the cheap crap you buy at wally for $3.29 a box)

Also fired about 15 rounds of 00 buck shot (half full power and half reduced recoil loads), and 5 rounds of full power slugs.

All rounds fired were 2 3/4 shells.

Reliability: perfect. No break in required, every time the trigger was pulled, the gun went bang, then chambered another round, or locked the bolt back if it was empty.

Accuracy: To the ability of my shooting skills, it seemed to hit what i was aimming at. The glo sight on the front is a nice touch too.

Handling: The gun is fairly light weight, and i had little problem getting on target and plastering clays.

Recoil: 8 shot shells had very low recoil. My shoulder isnt the least bit sore right now (just finished shooting 2 hours ago). During rapid fire, i did get muzzle climb, but with a 12 gauge, what do you expect ? :D However, it didnt pull right or left when shooting as quick as possible. With heavier rounds like buck shot or slugs, it starts to feel a bit more shotgun-like in the recoil department, kinda like shooting very very light loads out of my 870, but still vastly reduced over a pump gun. Overall, the recoil reduction on the extrema is exactly as advertised, and works well.

Breakdown and cleaning: Reasonably easy to take apart, not much harder then my 870. The gun doesnt seem to get too dirty internally. The manual recommends to clean the bolt and interior parts every 500-1000 rounds. The choke cleaned up easily by wiping it with a rag and some CLP. I didnt take the bolt out this time, but visually it doesnt appear dirty at all.

Gripes #1: When loading the gun, care must be taken or your fingers can get pinched by the thing that loads the shells into the chamber (cant recall the name of the sucker). Also when loading, you must make sure to push the shells into the tube until you hear a good solid click, other wise they just shoot out. I suspect this is because the gun is designed to handle up to 3.5" shells, and smaller ones are a bit more of a pain to load.

Gripe #2: A fairly minor gripe. The manual of arms on this gun as far as locking the bolt back, how it chambers a round, unloading it, etc, is a bit confusing at first. I actually had to read the manual carefully to understand how it all worked. Not a huge deal, but definitely something to keep in mind when buying this gun.

Overall impression: A simply awesome shotgun. Its damn expensive, but its immiedately obvious why you pay the price the first time you shoot it. A good all around gun for trap, hunting, or blasting a lot of holes into junk. With a tube extension (10+1), and rapid fire capability, destroying junk just reached the next level

The Beretta Xtrema and Urika are some of the finest shotguns I've ever abused. Not a single failure, ever -- more than can be said for my 1100s and SBE.

I plan on buying an Xtrema II this Saturday. It will replace my SBE as my duck/goose gun.
The Beretta designers need a pay raise, for putting the recoil spring in the forearm. I have shot a friends Xtrema II. Recoil even with heavy thumping 3.5 1550 BB's felt like a 20ga. It also cycled everything I put thru it, no matter how light the load. This included 7/8 loads.
Beretta has a winner with the Xtrema II.

To blacklabman. Have you purchased your Extrema II yet? I've got a beauty, black, 1 year old, North Georgia. Don't make a $$$$ mistake. Let me know.

Good review, I always want to know how a gun will run with cheap shells, the test of a good auto in my book. Thanks

Ooops! Just noticed that Blacklabman's post is a year old. I'm a newbie here.
