I'm interested in the PX4, but would like to wait for the compact because it reportedly has an ambidextrous slide stop and safety.

Anyone have any idea when it might be out?

They are out. I stated seeing Beretta PX4 Compact 9mm about 5 or 6 months ago. Checked out a Beretta PX4 Compact in 40 S&W about 3 months ago.

I've held one at a gun show before - they are nice pistols, but they are chunky as hell when compared to other compacts.

I've seen them at a couple of LGS, and at Gander Mtn. They've had several full size and compacts every time I've stopped in for the last few months.

It may not have hit the gun shops yet; Beretta just put out an announcement about it. It's the JM4PXC9 or JM4PXC40 depending on whether you want 9mm or .40 S&W. You might try contacting Beretta USA and see if they have some kind of shipping schedule they can provide.

BTW: The PX4 Compact does have the rotating barrel, just like the full-size PX4. Haven't gotten to try the Compact, but I sure do like my PX4 F!

COMPACT......COMPACT.....COMPACT.......

If anybody hears anything about the COMPACT,
please share it with us........

I want one, so I'll sit on the sidelines for a while,
BUT, I am tempted to go ahead and get the SUB-COMPACT...

I'd like to hear any opinions, whaddaya think?

Not interested in the Beretta SC - its kind of big, chunky, and has a standard barrel.

I like the PX4 for the rotating barrel and that it is made in Italy. (I know that won't go over well but oh well)

The PX4 Compact I am willing to wait for to see if someone finally gets a gun in the Glock 19 size arena.

As I said and you no doubt read as I saw you on the Beretta forum, no one really knows when the compact will be out...maybe not even Beretta.

Beretta is never good at getting a new product to market or being able to meet deadlines that they set.

Better to be late and get it right the first time, like Beretta usually always does, than to rush it out and recall it ......Like ummm, cough cough.

I just got off the phone with BARETTA, they swear it'll be out in OCTOBER, so I'm riding over to my local gun store today to see if I can put a deposit on a new one before they arrive.

I'll let you know how that goes.

I did call another gun store a few days ago and the moron didn't have any idea what I was talking about....:banghead:

I HATE to give my money to somebody like that!

The local gunshop here said it could be 6 months before they see one. It sounds tempting but they're still a bit bit "chunky".

I'm wondering if I would be just as happy carrying a px4 full-size instead of waiting for the compact.....

Do you guys carry the full size or is it just too large?
Ya'll have convinced me to get the "revolving" barrel....
And now I'm really embarrassed because I don't even know what that means!

It actually should be called a rotating barrel as it rotates after firing. Rather than employing the traditional dipping/tilting barrel system, the Px4 employs a rotary barrel locking system in which cams rotate the barrel’s locking lugs out of engagement from recesses in the slide after a short amount of rearward slide movement.

It also helps to dampen recoil as the rotation takes some of the force of the shot. In 9mm it may not be that great of a savings but in 40 and 45?

Going with (compare) pics.. lol

...

Gonna try my best here -

Px4 full size - just a tad longer in both length and grip length than P228/229 series guns shown below

Px4 Compact (rotating barrel) aprox same size as Sig P228/229 series

Px4 Sc smallest Px4 they make and is out in 9mm (but only with tilt-up barrel action)

Now the pics:

Full size Px4 and Sig P228

Picture390.jpg

Smaller, Px4 Compact aprox same size as P228/229 series guns

Below - Count the number of serrations vs full size above along with length of rail also noting that they come with slide/lock release levers on "both" sides and others, top and at bottom only have one on the left side.

Compact model with rotating barrel:

2010shotshow-01202010-91-640x480.gif

Now count and look at difference between Compact above and Sc below (the smallest (again, no rotating barrel below)

Below - this is an Sc 9mm model compared to an SA EMP 1911 SAO 9mm, 9+1

Smallest Px4Sc with tilt-up barrel-action
P1010005.gif

The big difference between all of them vs the last one shown, the tiny Sc model is the grip.. All have full, natural, grips and the Px4 Sc 9mm, one needs a Pinkie extension to get/have a full grip.. (just too small a gun IMO, and it's fat)

OMMV,

A little better pics

...

Here's some better pics of the smallest Px4sc vs SA EMP 1911 9mm

First Gun vs Gun both with 3" barrels

Smallest Beretta Px4sc 9mm showing pinkie extension mag

Same size gun but with full grip SA SAO EMP 1911 9mm, 9+1

emp-left-full.jpg

Difference, also, in thickness of guns, Px4sc stubby/fat vs slim EMP 1911

So, maybe another "option" on the table IF you don't want to wait IF October release for Beretta Compact Px4 9mm falls thru - possible look at SA EMP 1911

Got to say, owing one with just over 7k flawless rounds, the SA EMP 1911 is a great, Sc gun..

OMMV,

NICE PICS, Lonestar.........

They are very clear PICS especially "blown-up" on my APPLE Laptop.....
VERY nice, Thanks!

I guess I'm gonna also check out the SA EMP 1911......
The WOOD grips are cool, I like that!
I've read a lot of posts referring to that gun, it must be a good one!

Very nice comparison pic, thanks for posting! I like the look of the PX4 line, they are definitely on the list (chunky or not).
