My first gun purchase and (perhaps stupidly) without having shot. I liked the low recoil aspect of it and it seems to be well received generally. And it's not like I'm going to be out shooting this a lot, it's a home defense gun only. Be curious to hear others who have owned it and what you did or didn't like?

Great full size duty or home defense pistol. I have two. One in 9mm and one in .40S&W.

Have you actually shot yours yet?

If it's your first gun purchase, I imagine you will be shooting it quite a bit if you enjoy shooting! Always glad to welcome a new gun owner to the fold.

I got the compact 9mm btw...

I'll pick it up soon. I won't be shooting it much really but thanks; not because I don't want to, but I don't know anyone nearby who's into it and for some reason the only nearby range insists on 2+ people shooting, you can't go shoot by yourself.

If you post up your city/state of residence (assuming you live in the US), you might be able to find some like-minded folk here to accompany you to a range and help get you acquainted with your new purchase.

I have a Inox in 40s&w. It's a great gun. You could do much worse and then some for your first gun. I hear that you need to keep it clean and properly oiled, and you're good to go. My only complaint is that it has dated ergos that doesn't fit my hand will, but that's a personal issue.

Are you sure about the range rule? Usually the 2 person rule is only for customers who are coming in to rent firearms. They usually don't require 2 persons if you bring your own firearm. The point is to discourage people from renting a gun to commit suicide. This happens with enough frequency to be a problem. A friend of mine who used to own a range had this happen to him. He lost a regular customer who was out on the range at the time the rental customer offed himself--the guy never came back. Then he had to clean up the mess himself after the cops took the body. Then the guy's sister harassed him for renting her brother a gun. It was a real mess in every sense of the word. He closed the range not too long after that. I always wondered if that was part of the reason.

Anyway, the idea is that they figure that a person with that motive probably wouldn't bring a friend with them. But if a person already has their own gun, there's not much of a reason for them to go to a range to commit suicide.

Alternatively, I would probably go to the range and proposition another respectable looking group if I could join in with them and help split the cost.

@JohnKSa Yes, I've been all around the country and on gun forums for years, and I've never heard such a rule. I've heard 2 max per booth, but that's about it. What you stated about suicides makes since to. The 2+ only booth rental otherwise makes zero sense, but who knows.

I first ran up against the rule personally nearly 20 years ago on a trip to CA. I had a free day during the trip and planned to go to a range near the hotel, but I scouted it online ahead of time and they had a 2 person rule for range rentals. I didn't want to travel to CA with a pistol just for one range trip so before flying out, I posted on THR and there were a couple of THR members (BamBam-31 & Beetle Bailey) in the area who were free that day. The three of us had a fun day at the range. I got to shoot some of their pistols and we rented a couple from the range to test. Beetle Bailey brought a CZ75 and that was the first time I had shot one. That was a mistake--I bought one of my own not too long after I returned from the trip.

I absolutely love mine, 9mm compact. I shot it at IDPA tournaments and I did very well.

As a first pistol, it is perfect. Extremely safe to handle. If it is the F model, you can put the decocking lever on the safe mode when you load or unload the pistol and there's no chance that a user error can cause an accidental discarge.

I have a full size PX4 in 45. It started life as an F configuration. I converted it to a G and added stealth levers and an LTT 11lb hammer spring. Those changes turned a good gun into a great gun.

Oh yknow what, when I went out that time, it was with others who were only renting, I will check, thanks for that info!

Picked it up today, I like how it handled and love the sights too. Look forward to trying it out, maybe on a drone (kidding....) :) The only thing I would say is that it feels "bigger" than I would have expected for a "compact" gun, but I have no interest in conceal carry, so

I had a full-sized 40. Nice pistol. Sold it to a friend who still has it.

You must pay for everything in this world one way and another. There is nothing free except the Grace of God.
So not true. My company proved that today by sending me a huge box o beef as a Christmas present. I'm still having ham on Christmas, but oh man will I be beef feasting in the new year :)

I took a close look at a used 45ACP model almost a year ago. I was intrigued by the rotary bolt & some of the reliability testing. It’s a chunky pistol even in my xxl hand & I passed. It’s still sitting in the store’s case with a $500 tag on it.

I’m not sure why you bought this as your first gun and don’t plan on shooting it much because it’s for home defense. And Insee you’re also surprised at the size. You need to get this gun to the range and get used to firing it and learning how to handle it because God forbid you actually have to use this in a home defense situation and find out then what exactly you don’t know. I’m glad you decided to join this amazing community, but don’t do
It with your eyes closed.

BTW, I have a full size PX4 in .45 converted to a G version (look it up) and it is a great pistol.

I first converted mine to a G series but the large, sharp decocking lever was still a hand ripper. I then went with the low profile carry decocking levers and it’s a lot better now.

That is a pretty good price on it if it is new in box.

I'd snag it for that price!
I would too...just for the novelty

In .45ACP, there's always the Rainbow Six connection

I didn't think the PX4 felt any chunkier than the M-9. What threw me off when shooting was the off twist of the gun during recoil

I have bought a .40 and a 9mm full size Px4 in the last few months for bargain basement prices. They shoot great, although I had some issues with the 9mm getting on target initially for some reason. That has now been resolved (it was something on the user end). I like these guns and should have bought one much sooner. I will probably be putting 92-style safeties on my guns at some point.
