I am looking at a Bergara B-14 hunter in 308 for deer anyone have one, what are your thoughts on this rifle ??

I have one in 6.5 CM, but don't have enough trigger time to have strong opinions either way. I bought a Ruger Predator about 2 years ago just to see what the 6.5 CM fuss was all about. The Ruger is the cheapest way to get into an accurate rifle and I've not been displeased with either the rifle or cartridge. Buying the Bergara was really one of those impulse buys. They go for about $700 locally, but I stumbled onto one for $550 + $5 transfer fee, free shipping and ordered it. If it works out I'll probably sell the Ruger. Or, I may decide to sell the Bergara and keep the Ruger. I don't see me keeping both. I bought this just prior to hunting season and I've had other projects more pressing so I haven't shot it as much as I'd like. That is a winter project after hunting season ends.

So far accuracy is virtually the same, but aesthetically the Bergara is much more pleasing. The Bergara trigger is the best of any rifle in my safe and so far everything functions perfectly. It is loosely based on a Rem 700 action with the flaws of the Remington corrected. Any scope bases will interchange with a 700.

The stock LOOKS nice, but structurally it is just a cheap plastic stock. They just did a little better job with the aesthetics. If I keep it I'll consider replacing it with a McMillan. Too early to say.

It is a little heavier than I prefer. Mine is 8 lbs 3 oz with a Zeiss Conquest 3-9X40 scope on it. For comparison my Winchester 70's in McMillan stocks chambered in 308 and 30-06 are 7 1/2 lbs with the same scope, that's almost 3/4 lb difference. Replacing the Bergara stock will probably come close to evening things up.

I don't think I went wrong at $550. But if paying $700 for one I'd look hard at a Tikka.

I've had one in 06 for a few years now and i agree with pretty much everything JMR said.

I happen to really like the remington 700, and the b-14 is the best production 700 available.
I'm probably gonna end up getting a Ridge or woodsman, in 7mag at some point.

One noteable thing is you can cut 1/4lb just buy swapping the heavy alloy bottom metal for a 700s aluminum unit.

the bergara look nice and i have not herd anything bad other then just peoples different preferences on the gun. i would buy one over a remington 700 any day. i have used many of the barrels with muzzle loaders and they all shoot great.

This is literally his first ten rounds after zeroing the rifle. He was shooting Hornady 147 gr ELD factory ammo. I’m now a fan of the Bergara premium line. Probably going to pick up a HMR Premier at some point because of how well the Approach shoots.

I have had a B-14 Hunter in 6.5 CM for a couple of years now. The action is smooth, the trigger pull is adjustable and I like the fact that it is basically a 700 action with a few improvements. It took a while to find a load that it liked but with 129 gr. Accubond LR and H4350 it will shoot 6" groups at 500 yards. What was really a surprise was the fact that it matched the reticle in my Vortex scope. Each mark was on out to 500 yards. My only gripe is the weight of the rifle. I may have to get a Woodsman just to see if it is lighter.;)

Does Bergara use the same barrel quality across all price points? I’ve been looking for a good barreled Action for a 700 stock I have

Yes they do, at least according to their website.

I’ve got a Premier Stalker. Nice rifle, but like CaptCurt, it took some time to arrive at a good load (in my case, for hunting). Funny thing is Prime 130 grn Creedmoors shot 5/8” right out of the box. I’ve yet to come up with as good a load, but have several that are close.
