I have one in 6.5 CM, but don't have enough trigger time to have strong opinions either way. I bought a Ruger Predator about 2 years ago just to see what the 6.5 CM fuss was all about. The Ruger is the cheapest way to get into an accurate rifle and I've not been displeased with either the rifle or cartridge. Buying the Bergara was really one of those impulse buys. They go for about $700 locally, but I stumbled onto one for $550 + $5 transfer fee, free shipping and ordered it. If it works out I'll probably sell the Ruger. Or, I may decide to sell the Bergara and keep the Ruger. I don't see me keeping both. I bought this just prior to hunting season and I've had other projects more pressing so I haven't shot it as much as I'd like. That is a winter project after hunting season ends.
So far accuracy is virtually the same, but aesthetically the Bergara is much more pleasing. The Bergara trigger is the best of any rifle in my safe and so far everything functions perfectly. It is loosely based on a Rem 700 action with the flaws of the Remington corrected. Any scope bases will interchange with a 700.
The stock LOOKS nice, but structurally it is just a cheap plastic stock. They just did a little better job with the aesthetics. If I keep it I'll consider replacing it with a McMillan. Too early to say.
It is a little heavier than I prefer. Mine is 8 lbs 3 oz with a Zeiss Conquest 3-9X40 scope on it. For comparison my Winchester 70's in McMillan stocks chambered in 308 and 30-06 are 7 1/2 lbs with the same scope, that's almost 3/4 lb difference. Replacing the Bergara stock will probably come close to evening things up.
I don't think I went wrong at $550. But if paying $700 for one I'd look hard at a Tikka.
