I just can not seem to find a load using Berry's 124 gr. Plated Target Hollow Point (.356) product # 10299 over a load of Titegroup.
Comparing to similar loads like what BDS posted on April 24, 2011 using Berry's 124 gr. Hollow Base Round nose,I'm thinking 3.8 - 4.0 grains of TG.
Other research has yielded information of 3.6 - 4.1 grains of TG with a C.O.L of 1.150" .

Any experience with this bullet and powder will be appreciated. Looking for starting point up to maximum with C.O.L included. Gotta be careful with this TG, just want to use it up and not necessarily push the limit.

Thanks in advance for your time.

I worked up a load with it... 4.1grn TG with a 124grn HSM bullet (very similar to the Berry's, but not a HP design) seated at 1.145". For some reason I don't have my chrono data for it, although I know I ran it over the screens. I did note that it was 100% in my Kahr pistols, and that I have settled on it as my TG load to burn up my last pound of it, so it must have been acceptable.

3.2 gn of TG with a Berry’s 147rn @ 1.160, is my #3 “minor” load.

I’d say 3.6 @ 1.150 would be a good start for 124’s.

I have a 1k box of those bullets I'm fixing to load next... thanks! I don't know that I would load them that long, personally, but that looks like a good charge to work up to with the 147grn.

Okay, I got it.
Plunk test is fine @1.150 in both the Mrs. LC9 And Walther P1.
Will load up some test loads of 3.6, 3.8 and 4.0 grains of Titegroup tomorrow and see how that works.

Thanks Charlie98, nevadabob and jmorris.

Sometimes a guy need a little encouragement.:)

They have ran in every 9mm I have tried them in with the exception of the MP5SD but it has a ported barrel that bleeds off too much gas.

I've always had good luck with 4.0-4.1 gr of Titegroup powder with 124gr plated bullets. I have used Berrys a lot with this load. It was always accurate and consistent but good luck finding your brass. It really flies with compact pistols. I always used 1.125" for OAL.
I use titegroup a lot and keep lots of it on hand.

It's a very cheap powder to use but it's high energy, just make sure you are measuring it accurately. The measure I use for it is consistent to .1gr, that's why I list my load as 4.0-4.1gr. I set it to not exceed 4.1 so it bounces around between 4.0 and 4.1.

3.7-3.8gr is a good target load with 124gr anything, also at 1.125 OAL or longer. I only use 1.125 OAL because that length cycles through all my 9s.

Be careful extrapolating hollow base bullet loads to determine solid base bullet loads, especially with 9mm. The Hodgdon site only lists the hollow base, but my Speer manual shows their 124 variants.

I didn't have the 124 Berry's HP, but did use the Rainier's HP, and with 3.8gr Titegoup at 1.150", just made minor PF. I'd be interested to know how yours did.

One last consideration, I shot a lot of plated and coated but have been moving over to jacketed since RMR has jacketed at about the same price as plated.

I did not get to them today as I said I would yesterday. Hopefully tomorrow or Friday. Not that it matters as I do not have a chronograph, so all I can say is how they perform compared to others that have been shot.

Got a good deal on the Berry's so I figured to give them a try. Typically use jacketed bullets though, except my cast in 44 Rem. Mag.

BTW, I am careful, hence the thread, And what does "PF" stand for?

Thanks for the input.

Good. The only pressure issue I had with Titegroup so far was with 9mm, plated and too short of a COL. Titegroup is a fine powder but it’s easy to get in to dangerous territory. PF is Power Factor, minor PF for USPSA is 125. It’s the MV*BulletGR/100000. If you don’t have a chrono, or access to one, it’ll be difficult to determine. I’d really recommend getting one or finding someone who has one as you can assess your reloads in an entirely different way than just “it shot ok”. IMHO. Good luck!

I had the same problem many years ago with 9mm and Unique in my BHP... I actually gave up on loading 9mm for about 20 years, and have only recently started up again. The 9mm OAL is one metric I pay a lot of attention too, more so than any other handgun cartridge.

Loaded up six of each as posted in post #6. (3.6, 3.8, 3.8 grains.) Had to go to 1.125 OAL to fit in my three magazines.
Shot them today starting with the 4.0 load and worked down as I forgot to bring anything along in case of a squib.
All fed and fired just fine, as you said "it shot ok", :) through the Walther. (bottom picture)

Will, for now settle on 3.9 grains, kinda a compromise, but I feel comfortable with that.

Also tried the February/ March 2019 pocket/CC 10 shots 10 yard challenge with the Micro Desert Eagle (under the Walther) but that is another story. ;)

I guess there will be a chronograph in my future, I would not want to borrow one, besides I know of no one near me that has one.

BTW, it was a BEAUTIFUL day out there, almost 30 degrees F. above zero, (60 - 70 degrees warmer than a few weeks ago) even having to trudge through knee deep snow!

LIFE IS GOOD!!!
