Best 10mm auto loader (not Glock)

My LGS had a G20 in stock today. Nope not for me as the grip is rather large for my hands. Reminded me of my G30 I carried for a bit. He is going to call me when he gets an X10 in and let me check it out...

I can’t find a pic of mine but I would agree. $400 at Rural King every now and then. Shooting mine off of a rest (fancy word for trash can lid) at a soda can I’m 100% out to 40 yards. Still about 90% at 50 yards. It drops off quickly from there. I think it’s the ammo, cheap blasting fodder that seems to tumble. I haven’t shot reloads enough to know what they do, but even with cheap blasting fodder the RIA is a solid option for close range shots in the deer woods.

Couldn’t find a pic so I took a new one. This setup has become my work carry for deer season so that if I have a few minutes after work to slip into the bow-blind then I can.

That, sir, is a VAQUERO that I had rechambered from .40 S&W and added S&W J frame adjustable sights. It was never a Blackhawk and still isn’t a Blackhawk. Alan Harton in Houston did the work.

It only came with the .40 S&W cylinder; the Vaquero was a commemorative model for the 150th anniversary of the San Diego County Sheriff's Office. I was offered one of the blemished ones that had the lettering on the barrel messed up. Cost me $250 so I said sure. Sent it off for bead-blasting and conversion to a more useful cartridge. I did not like the high polish stainless, so got rid of that and the blemished writing (like some weird cerakote paint lettering) too. Came out nice and shoots great.

 

The vaquero with adjustable sights- whoever did the work , well done.

 

I vote for the Colt Delta Elite also!

 

I have both, I am a huge fan of 10mm 1911's but the P220 10mm's are absolutely amazing!!
The weight of the P220 pistols help reduce the recoil.
You could not go wrong with either.
The P220's that seem to be easier to find now are the Legion series or the Kryptek (sp) finished pistols.
I wasn't interested in either.

 

They are both P220 Elites.
The two tone one is a SA/DA, the nitron one is SAO. Slide lock and a thumb safety.
The SAO one has an amazing trigger, it's my favorite 10mm auto pistol.

 

Not a Glock fan here, either. But with snappy calibers, the Glock grip aligns the gun barrel and recoil with my arm and reduces muzzle rise. In 10mm, I shot the Glock very well.

I may be a bit biased, but what started as a Para-Ordnance 16-40 Limited in .40S&W is now my absolute favorite carry-10mm. All it needed was reaming the chamber and changing the recoil spring, magazines work for 10mm cartridge length as-is - these days double stack 1911 10mm:s are fairly common but none were available back then. I also have a Colt Delta Gold Cup in 10mm but it's strictly a collector piece now, partly because they have some known durability issues if the round count gets high.

Alternatively, you can't go wrong with the classic CZ DA pistol variant, be it CZC97 or EAA/Tanfoglio. After all, 9mm CZ75 is what Bren Ten that started it all was (loosely) based on. I'd most likely look at EAA Witness Elite Match, but that's just me.

Personally I really, really dislike Glocks, with a passion. That said, they're great guns and if functionality is what you're after, there's no excuse not to buy a G20 and be done with it.

 

I’m a 1911 guy, but to me the Sig blows the DW out of the water as far as controllability.

 

I've always wanted 1006 but swayed to SA/DA P220......

 

I had one. Was my first 10MM. Got too heavy on the hip for field use so I sold it and purchased a G20.

 

I've had a 1006 for nearly 20 years now and, yeah, it's kind of a pig.

Plus, mags (when you can find them) are $$$, and no factory support anymore.

Thinking about putting it on the chopping block lately for something a little more manageable.

P220 would be high on my list (S&W 610 would be higher )

I've tried to like Glocks, I really have tried, but I just can't stand them.

 

There has been an explosion of 10mm models lately. Great cartridge for hand loading.
