I recently realized I badly need something in 10mm. (we all know these things just happen:rolleyes:) So I am trying to look into all possible options

    so far i have:

    1. Bren-Ten would be awesome but realistically is too much $$$ and is a collectors item
    2. Colt Delta Elite do these still explode?
    3. Glock no offense but personally i do not like polymers and striker fired
    4. EAA (no experience with them)
    5. dan wesson (no experience with them) But, theyre just 1911's though right? so essentially same as a delta elite.. right?
    6. is that all? any other makes/models?

As far as i can tell theres only about 5 or 6 different choices for 10mm autos and glocks are already ruled out, so this cant be that hard a decision.

I'm leaning toward colt because so far it seems the only choice, but I would like someone to ease my fear of exploding slides.

I would take a Bren-ten in a heartbeat if i could get one with a couple mags for under a grand... anyone offering?

I have 10mm handguns in the following versions:

    S&W 1006 (1)
    Witness Full Size(several)
    Witness Compact (1)
    Colt Delta Elite (2)
    S&W 610 Revolver (1)

The most robust of them all is the 1006, and the most accurate is the 610 Revolver. The Witness has a magazine capacity of 16 rounds of 10mm, which is a lot of firepower for that size handgun.

    Hope this helps.

The BEST deal on a 10mm is the EAA Witness ELITE MATCH !!!
    I own/owned Colt Delta Elites , Colt DE Gold Cup , S&W 1006 , and a custom ParaOrdnance . In revolvers , a S&W 610 5" and a Ruger 10mm-38/40.

I just wish I tried the Witness ELITE MATCH years ago !!!! As said above , 15 rd. mags , very nice single action trigger, and they are slim enough for us with smaller hands!!!

At around $550 , they really are a BEST BUY in 10mm ---- add the fact you can get conversion kits for them in 38 Super , 40 S&W , 9mm , 45acp and .22rf.

I own Elite Matches in 10mm,40 S&W , 9mm and 38 Super --- all are about 99% reliable with most factory ammo and my reloads.

Oh Come On!! Do you really...REALLY think Delta Elites or Dan Wessons explode?

    This is beyond unbelievable.

not saying Dan Wessons do, i don't know much about those

for the colt delta that is a pretty persistent argument however, if i'm not mistaken even colt themselves acknowledged it was a problem

maybe not explode but frame/slide cracks?

as for the Witness, i never knew that was a popular choice and will look into it
at first glance i wonder is it the CZ design?

The SW 10 series if Glock is off the table.

But for a grand I might be able to pull off both the Glock 20 and 29.

I might also be able to pull off both a SW1006 and 1066.

    I wholeheartedly understand that "need".

I would tell you which 10mm I think was best, but you already said you don't want a Glock.

Hey, then I need one too!

I have ten boxes of ammo from my horrible s/s Parker 10mm. It was so hard steel the factory tried to stop the jams so they tried and tried then went out of business. I traded it to a 'smith who could fix it.

It is over $220 of ammo. I need one too!

Delta's did not 'explode'. The early Delta's were prone to a frame crack in the steel above the slide stop. The rectified this by machining that metal away. I assume this allowed the steel frame to flex slightly there when before it worked itself to metal fatigue.

I have heard of no cracking issues with Dan Wesson.

To your original question, I would second the Witness Elite Match. Be sure you are looking at the Elite series guns. They are head and shoulders better than the standard Witness. There is a used on on gunbroker right now.

Glock... I know you said you dont like them. Fine ... either do I, but you have to sometimes give respect to a good thing. The G20 is the only model from Glock I will own now after going through a G17, G19, G23 and G20. It is a great platform for the 10mm round. It is super reliable, it is robust, accurate, 15rd capacity, affordable, ergonomic for the size, lightweight but large enough to handle the recoil, accesories abound so you can add a 6" hunting barrel or change the sights.

I am not a striker fire and polymer guy either, but the g20 is the best all around 10mm gun still being built.

Glock is clearly the best 10 currently made. The Smith is darn good if you can find one and are not concerned about lower mag capacity. There are several 1911 based 10mm's, but I don't know enough to comment.

Dan Wesson arguably makes some of the best production 1911's on the market today. The Dan Wesson CBOB has a fit and finish superior to many guns that are twice the price. Good luck trying to find one though, they are highly sought after right now.

If I ever get my hands on a Dan Wesson Valor in 10mm or .45 then that shop is closing early that day.

Other than that, Glock 20 is the best 10mm pistol.
