Best 1911 for the money

I cant say enough good things about the Armscor 1911s.
We have had experience with the RIA 1911 Match... 90% the same as an STI Spartan, the RIA 1911 Tactical, and the High Standard Crusader Compact.
The Tactical and Compact are EDC guns, so I trust them enough to bet my life on them.
And if you ever need it, the Armscor service is second to none.

One that you own and feel confident with, that's the best one.

For me I'm going to get my second Wilson this year. This time it will be a Supergrade. Will it make me shoot better? Probably not, but I'll feel better owing what I feel is the best gun I can.

There is no wrong answer to this poll. From a $400 1911, to a $4,000 one there are all great. Just MHO.

If your considering the RIA... i STRONGLY suggest you take a good look at the AC II from Metro Arms fist...real close in price with more features

I have handled 2 of the metro arms 1911s that had non functional grip safeties.
If you get one just be sure to do a good function test.

Every Metro Arms I have seen is almost as nicely fit as a Springfield Loaded, the only reason I am that bold is because I own both and really liked the Metro more for a few personal preferences. The fit is amazing for a sub $500 1911, and the slide is fit nice and tight. The slide is also forged steel, where in that price range most are not.
Dont get me wrong SA makes great 1911's as does other inexpensive 1911 makers, to me IMHO the Metro for the price is above and beyond.

There is nothing wrong with a Colt 1911. Colt has been making 1911's longer than anyone else. They've had there ups and downs. Right now they are doing well and producing very nice 1991's for the price.

wow, what does an Ed Brown have that Taurus doesnt?
Not trying to pick a fight, that statement just shocked me.
Thats not even a comparison.

As for best bang for the buck. I would pick one of the lower end Kimbers like the Custom model.

Taurus PT1911

The Taurus factory in Brazil was supposed to be a Baretta factory, and the Taurus PT1911 is by far the best 1911 style pistol for the buck! It really is Italian quality made in Brazil.
I just bought one myself, and it's amazing right out of the box...and really cheap!

For all the standard features on this pistol (ambidextrous thumb saftey, rear adjustable sight with white dots...great if your a lefty or right handed/left eye dominant or vice versa), all I can say is this is the by far the best bang for the buck!
this really is an awesome gun!

I saw a Nice 1911 Colt for 650.00 today at a gunshow...anything wrong
with that..?

Nope, depending upon the model. Right now unmodified, lightly used Colts offer great values. Some typical prices for excellent samples:

$500 - 1990's era 1991a1 model in Parkerized or matte blue finish.
$600 - 2000 or later 1991 in polished blue or stainless.
$700-$800 - used XSE/enhanced models or real, high condition 1970's vintage Series '70 guns.

I've been buying these on and off the last few years and good deals appear. Great value and quality.

Sorry, but would have to disagree. With everything that I have read and in talking to dealers, they seem to suck.
If the Taurus sucks so bad, why do dealers carry them. Seems like the lower the margin for the dealer, the suckier the guns are!! I've had zero problems with mine. If you REALLY want a .45ACP, go with the G21. The 1911 has 99 years of service unencumbered by progress.

I have owned a Springfield TRP and a Kimber Royal II. I sold them for various reasons.

I could not be happier with Colt.
I currently own a series 70 repro Government, and a XSE Combat Commander. Both have been flawless with ball and JHP ammo. Quality is excellent.
