OK its about all i can validate spending on a new 1911. I want something with night sights. Preferably classy looking SS rather than parkerized or blued finish.

Ok so what do yall think is the best 1911 for under $1200?

question is without an answer, despite what anyone may say. you need to define best for anyone to really help you. a good start in that regard would be defining the use for the gun.

I want a gun that will sit on my night stand every night. I want to put it in my trucks console. I love practicing so I will bring it to the range allot. I may try to conceal but that is the least of my priorities. I want a government size model.

I was pretty set on the Dan Wesson Pointman but I don't like the sights. I really want night sights. (Anyone know of any aftermarket night sights that will work on this gun??)

I also like the Para Gun Rights single stack in stainless.

The Springfield Loaded looks good but Ive never held one.

A vote here for Kimber. I think that for your money, you'll get the most bang for your buck. Springers are nice, but I don't like that they don't have front strap checkering like Kimbers do.

I would go out today and order a Dan Wesson if someone told me about some night sight options. :D

Fusion has these:http://www.fusionfirearms.com/servlet/the-350/1911-Colt,-BOMAR-style/Detail

My guess is that they could tell you if they would work on the PM7 since they used to own the company.

I bought the SA Black Stainless Target a few years ago. It had a type of night sight, but I wasn't real impressed. I bought a S&W1911PD Commander with the CT laser grips. If you want serious night time shooting the laser is pretty darned cool. Nice to sight without looking over the sights as well.

I found the rz45 heritage dan wesson and it has the kind of sights i want. I would like a vented trigger which this model doesn't have but thats easily installed so i dont have to worry about that. :D:D

I will get one

Dan Wesson or Colt.

Or with $1200 you could buy three Rock Island tacticals(although parkerized and not the "best sights") and put one in the console, one on the night stand and the other wherever.

I own at least one of each of the above except for a Taurus. Currently, Dan Wesson offers the best $1000 M1911 out there. You don't need to pay $1200.

HK.

Just kidding (not really) - I would recommend a Springer Loaded, as it's what I have experience with.

And as just my opinion - stay away from Kimber. I'm sure they're terrific guns for many, but my experience with three of their models - including a spendy Custom CDP - was bad news.

Failures to feed, FTE - not good. I think folks who recommend Kimber usually say get a Series I gun, without the schwartz safety.

Never seen a Springfield 1911 that was not up to par with fit and finish. And function. Seen both Colts and Kimbers that were junk from day one. MY vote is for a SA.

A Colt is always the right answer!

At that price range you will find many nice pieces. I have lots of good comments on the Dan Wesson, but a Colt is the place to start...

Or, combine the best of both worlds. The 1911 model with the SigSauer brand. Sig makes one hell of a 1911. To be more accurate; they make 19 variations of the 1911. From full size to compact. From target to tactical. From stainless to parkerized to two-tone. The price range is definitely in the $1000-$1200 ball park. But you're also getting one hell of a gun and one hell of a company.
