Plan to buy a gun safe. I like to know what is out there that is the best "Bang for the Buck" gun safe for about $300.oo-$400.oo range.

I need to store no more then 5 rifles and 2 hand guns.

(have 2 kids in the house/so needs to be kid proof for sure)

Thanks!!

I recently researched this same topic and was looking in the same price range. I settled on a Winchester I found at Sams for $581.00. I know it's a little more than you wanted to spend, but after months for looking and talking with others on this forum I spent the extra money and bought it in October. Most people stated that this was the better of the safes (RSC's) in our price range. Very happy thus far. Hope this helps!

I just bought the small Browning Theftgard safe at BPS in Orlando for $400. It is an 18 rifle setup with one shelf up top. It works for me.

In that price range I would get one of the Stack On security cabinets. Will keep kids and smash&grabbers out. The RSCs don't offer that much more protection.

I believe the Homak is the same quality level as the stack ons. You can get stack on at Academy. $90 for the 8 gun, $160 for the 14 gun.

I own 2 of the sentry 14 gun safes. My only complaint is the newer one is almost too short for my shotguns w/28" brls. I don't have much 'head' space on the shelf above it.

I got one of the Sentry brand safes from Walmart. I ordered it online. It was either the 10 or 14 rifle safe, I can't remember. They use very generous estimates on the number of rifles you can fit in. Maybe they are quoting those Cricket .22s.

I'm happy with it. I rent so I needed a small one. I figure I can buy the bigger model later and bolt the 2 of them together. Make sure you bolt it to wall studs or the floor because it will topple over if the door is open. Also it's harder to steal it that way.

The Lowes Sentry safe E5251 can be found at some stores for $297.

I bought one at Lowes for that price - only an entry level RSC but better than a homack cabinet.

I just went with two of the Sam's Club Winchester safes. Got one for myself and the friend that provided me the opportunity to make the cash windfall to buy them.
The way I figured it, you cannot get a better safe unless you start looking at real safes at $3000+, it will stop the "smash and grab" punks in the neighborhood, and help against fire protection. For the price, you could get two and keep your eggs in two baskets so they really have to take the time to get everything you have.
