Best 45-70 gun

thanks for that. I never considered that as a option. That will probably be the way to go. Also thanks to everyone who contributed to this forum.

I have never been to Africa, But I am inclined to believe them.
 
My 45-70 of choice is a Gibbs Frontier Summit Rifle by Navy Arms which is based on a rebarreled Lee-Enfield SMLE action with a sporterized walnut stock. This action is rated at 45,000 cup so can easily handle Marlin levergun level loads though I personally will not go this hot for my shoulders sake. There is one available on gunbroker.com right now. I'd post pictures of mine but i'm not at home, and on a webtv ARGH.
 
I owned and handloaded for an 1895 Marlin. I could equal older British double rifle ballistics, although recoil in such a light gun was grim. There were no signs of excess pressure. Killing a Cape Buff is certainly possible.

However, there are much better (and safer for the hunter) cartridges for the job.
