Best 7.62x39 Suppressed SBR?

7.62x39 seems like a great SBR round, and I'd really like to suppress one. However, it seems like all the potential platforms have warts of some sort of another. AK's don't seem to suppress very well. 7.62x39 AR mags seem to have horrendous reliability. I can't seem to find much info on the HK pattern 7.62x39. I am not sure if the sig 55? comes in an sbr.

Is 7.62x39 just not supposed to be suppressed, or has someone figured it out?

I dunno, lots of guys on theakefiles and gunco have suppressed AKs that work just fine. The Kalashnikov gas system is virtually indifferent to the particular cartridge or back pressure.

Suppressed AKs work, they just aren't the best guns to suppress. From what I've seen they don't cycle subs well and they vent a lot of gas when cycling. That leads to a gun that can work with a can, but isn't really as quiet as you'd like after spending the cash and the time waiting on the multiple transfers for the can and SBR.

The 7.62x39 is a good round for a SBR. It burns its powder quickly so you don't really loose much velocity when you cut the barrel down. You can suppress an AK, but it's not going to be the quietest gun out there. As long as you know that going into it you should be fine. If you just like the idea of suppressing a cartridge like the 7.62x39 (but aren't tied to the round), take a look at the .300 blk. It's similar but works well in ARs and will allow you to cycle both supers and subs.

FWIW a suppressed SBR AK is on my list to eventually get, but when I want a quiet intermediate rifle it's going to be the .300 blk SBR.

I short barreled and suppressed my Yugo M92 and really appreciate it.



Mine wears the Manticore Arms triangle stock, CNC Warrior 5/8X24 thread adapter and a YHM titanium thread mount 30 caliber can.

I have about 500 rounds on the can set up on this rifle and there have been no concentricity issues to date.

Personally I feel that this is the best money I have spent on an SBR.

As far as it being a suppressor host is concerned I'll share that it's loud, way loud, louder than my 18" M1A with the same can on it, I'm talking ear ringing loud to an order of magnitude far greater than all my other suppressor hosts.

That said, it's a gas piston SBR so I expected it to be loud.

Fired unsuppressed it sounds like the crack of doom and it'll clear an indoor range within a few rounds.

Fired out of doors unsuppressed it's not much better but with the suppressor installed it is without a doubt moderating a great deal of the concussion and all of the muzzle flash.

I'll go on to share that suppressed there is an inordinate amount of gas that's shunted back down the barrel and escapes out the back of the top cover and directly into my shooting eye (not unlike my M1A).

Eyepro is an absolute must when firing this thing suppressed.

mikes machines makes an ar-15 lower that accepts ak mags,or you can use a standard ar lower with cdnn curved mags for 762x39.noveske makes a gas block switch for suppressed options and criterion/green mountain barrels makes shorty barrels.

I saw a guy at the range running a can on a VZ58 which worked quite well. I didn't have a decibel meter but by my estimation it was hearing safe. It was quieter i think than my suppressed AUG.

I do say that it was somewhat hearing safe, because of the large ventholes in the gas block it was still loud. It felt louder on the left side (support side actually). Suppressor itself is good one, makes a 300 WM hearing safe.

Also, the blowback was quite enormous, covering even the charging handle and my face. Looks like the chrome lined internals are a must in this instance.

On the plus side, the already light recoil was something of a .22LR rifle-like, almost non-existant, it felt easier to shoot.

Also, since the threads are M14x1 RH, and the length of the thread is quite small, and the front face of the sight post might not be squared to the barrel axis, there is the technical question of getting the suppressor concentric to the bore. The current combo of the rifle, M14 to M18 adapter, and the M18 threaded suppressor (M18 because it is mostly on one other rifle, and that has the Sako M18 thread) does not, so the POI shifts whole meter sideways at 100 m. The adapter I have does not align up wth the rifle as it should. Suppressor is OK.

I can't seem to find much info on the HK pattern 7.62x39. I am not sure if the sig 55? comes in an sbr.

HK designed a 32 (16" barrel) & 52 (8" barrel) but was only produced in limited numbers ... It was intended to be able to use any AK mag but was not reliable so a proprietary mag was designed ... There are are supposedly a few countries making licensed copies.

If want one your best bet is to get a PTR-32 or 52 ... Not currently in production but do pop up for sale once in a while ... I have a 32 and recently had a 52 built.





SiG of course has the 556R, but to the best of my knowledge never produced a 556R pistol but is supposed to have a 7.62x39 conversion for their new 556xi out soon ... but we'll see.
