For the money? Probably a converted Saiga.

Or if money isn't an issue, my favorite, the Arsenal SLR-105.

absolute best? Krebs KTR-03, or Vepr. Otherwise Arsenal makes some very nice ones.

Personally I think the 5.45x39 is best suited in the krinkovs (AKS-74U)

Speaking of Krebs, check out their new selection of converted 5.45x39 Saigas. Just stumbled across it today - they look pretty good.

I was, however, a little disappointed in the fact that they do not have the uninterrupted railing mounted on top of the receiver like the KTR-08 has.

1. sgl31 = Actual Russian rifle all the goodies
1a. Vepr 5.45 (Expensive Heavy)
2. SLR-105 Bulgarian (Overpriced)
3. Saiga 5.45 +Conversion
4. CUR-2

krebs only does that on their KTR series. However they do sell the rails and you can install them yourself.

Best bang for the buck, get a Saiga 5.45x39 and convert. Can be done for about $500 if you shop carefully.

right now TCI is selling AK74s built on bulgarian recievers and barrels for $399. They are using beat up stocks ( which can easily be refinished) to keep the costs down. Easily the best deal out there. The guns are listed at $499 on their site, but if you go and register on Theakforum.com go down to the TCI forum--> Truck gun thread---> promo code, then you can get it for $399.

What's The Best AK?

What' the best AK? I thought Polytech was a few years ago, but I've been out of the loop for awhile. Thanks for the info.
