Sig P320 in whatever size you may want. I purchased the Compact two years ago and I also have the sub-compact.

The only problem with this question is the answer is one size does not fit all. That being said, I have been very happy with my Gen 4 Glock 19. In fact, as much as I love my 1911s of all sizes, I would say that my 19 is probably my favorite gun that I own.

The absolute best 9mm pistol in the entire world is the one in my hand when I need it most, be it a HiPoint, CZ or Smock. Hopefully I will have full faith in confidence in it and have fired it extensively, but when the bet is called, that poker hand better play out better than aces and eights.
Personal CZoice right now is either the CZ SP-01 Phantom or CZ P-09, but that's just me.
