Hi anybody know of any good deals on ammo? Just getting started with a new stag arms 556/223 super varmint and I need to get some brass to start reloading. Thought it might make sence to buy some loaded ammo rather than just buy brass and components. The intended use is for varment hunting and maybe some target..

Any help or sugestions will be greatly appreciated.

ThanksTom

For loaded varmint ammo, its hard to beat Fiochii V-maxs in the 50 ct boxes. I think they usually run about 21 bucks or so at Cabelas

Just bought some Federal 55 gr FMJ today at Cabela's for $5.49 a box - less $10 for a coupon they'd mailed me.

Hint: If you're at a Cabela's store, be sure you check the "online" prices of whatever you're buying at a kiosk; I've found that for normal merchandise, Cabela's stores will price match the Cabela's website. Saved me $0.50/box today.

HankB,

What does tax bring the total price to per box?

Here in Oregon (no sales tax) a local sporting goods chain has a sale on Federal XM193F for $5.99/20. It's on my way home from work, so no extra gas cost, and with no sales tax, it's exactly $.2995/round. I'm wondering if anyone can find American-made .223 ammo any cheaper (with tax and/or shipping costs factored in).

PSA has it for $274.50 for 1000 rds. plus $12 shipping=.2745/round.

Dang, that is good.

But I'm assuming that by "Shipping: $12 per 1,000 rounds", they mean you pay $12 for shipping, even if you only want 100 rounds. So that would mean you only get the price of $.2745/round if you buy a 1,000 round minimum.

Obviously, the trick here is to buy in bulk. But spending $275 all at once to save $25, might not make sense to some, especially if it takes them a year to shoot through 1,000 rounds of .223.

either academy or gander has federal going on sale for black friday. it's that black box american eagle stuff and I think it's 5.50 a box?

Man, I really wish we had one of those giant "super" chains out here. The nearest Cabelas to me is 2 hours away. No Gander, no Academy. Only Dick's Sporting Goods and Wholesale Sports. They both charge at least 15-20% more for ammo than the local smaller chains. But the smaller chains have extremely limited selection and quantity. I guess $5.99/20 with no tax is the best I'm going to find locally.

+1 for Aim

cabelas has a good deal on American Eagle 223, 5.49 per 20 and free shipping over $100 with promo code WGIFTS

it well all depend on how far you have to drive OR add shipping cost to an order as to whats cheapest. Could buy a load of tula for what? 4 bucks and under a box.

The American Eagle is already on sale at Cabelas for $5.49/20, which is the same price as PSA. Free shipping on orders of $99 or more.

BUT, BUT, there is sales tax if they have a store in your state. They do in Texas so for me there would be a ~$37 tax on a 1000 rounds.

This makes PSA, Palmetto, still the best deal, for me. (No steel rounds please. Voids my warranty and I'd rather support American manufacturers than Russians.)

If you don't have a Cabelas in your state, then it could be the best buy for you.

I have a cabelas coupon code for $10 off $75 I got in the mail that I won't be using. has to be used by 11/30.

whoever uses it first please post a reply that it's no longer valid so we don't have disappointed people.

HankB,

Factoring in coupon and tax, it came to $4.86/box, equivalent to $243/1000. (But I also used a few Cabela's Bucks I had . . . and got a little back in my Cabela's Club account for next time.)

Cabela's prices usually aren't too super, but if you're a Cabela's Club member you often get coupons, which, when combined with a sale, can form the basis of a good deal.

My Academy has Federal .223 AR for $5.49 this weekend. Walmart normal price is $5.89.
