Best folding stock for Mossberg 500?

Looking for a good, solid folding stock for the Mossberg 500. Something sturdy, well made, but not too expensive. It should be strong enough to last a long time, yet offer some protection to the cheek (no bare metal bars against the cheek when firing full house buckshot, thank you!). Something that deploys quickly and locks open solidly. I want a folder so I can make it smaller for storage. So it has to unfold quickly and easily.

The only folders I have used were Choate side folders.

The biggest problem I have had with them (and Choate stocks in general) was the thinner than stock shoulder area, which for a shotgun increased the felt recoil considerably. M1 Carbine, 10/22, Mini-30 weren't so bad, but those full-house buckshot you mentioned.

Butler Creek has this new one:

Which is supposed to have a wider shoulder area for lesser felt recoil.

I haven't time to search for lowest online price right now, but Combat Stocks has 'em for $69.95.

Why are they unsuited because of the safety? I have heard that the pistol grip can be problematic with the slide release but why the safety?

They're not "unsuited", they're just "less convenient".

Same with a Pistol Grip, but Mossberg sells those too.

It's because the safety is on the top (tang?) rather than in front of the trigger group like the other brands. No big deal, just not super-pushbutton-quick.

Pushbuttons aren't fast for me either, as I'm left handed, so all I can do is put the shotgun ON safe really really fast with my trigger finger

With a Mossberg and a PG, just bring thumb away from grip and down under stock (if extended) to "strong side" of weapon, then move thumb upward toward the safety and operate.

Having owned a few long guns with folding stocks, I can say that they are WAY convenient if storage space is an issue, but as I already mentioned, comfort and convenience can suffer.

I say if you still want one after reading all the facts, go for it.

I don't even have a mossberg shotgun. It's a present for someone who wants one.

In any case, I mentioned the safety thing to him. He doesn't mind. So yes, it's what I'm looking for.

Folders

I currently own both the Rem 870, and the Mossberg 500 Persuader (with Cruiser package).

I use the Rem 870 for hunting only, and I use the Mossberg for home defense only.

Anyway -- the Cruiser package that is available when you buy the Mossberg 500 Persuader is the configuration of: pistol grip installed, 20" barrel installed, 7 shot magazine installed, and barrel shroud installed. An evil-looking black gun, indeed.

I have found that it is very VERY easy for one to bust one's lip with a quickness when trying to shoot the weapon with any sort of aim. I *thought* I was holding it tightly enough, but obviously I wasn't -- and shooting from the hip just isn't going to work out effectively.

So, I decided to consider folders. I looked at about 4 different brands from some local gun shops. Every single one had a little bit of a wiggle in it. This is unacceptable. Therefore, I decided to get one of those pistol grip/buttstock things to install on my gun. I intend to go get it tomorrow morning.

I believe that this is the best option. However, if you really want a folder, the one that the previous poster suggested seems like it would be a good one, for a good price.

Tadyson: consider a standard non PG stock, with a short LOP.

Length of pull. A youth stock will be shorter than a standard stock.

Regardless, if you want a pistol grip stock, get a pistol grip stock. It's up to you.
