Best Foregrip / Light setup for AR-15

I have a Delton M4 that just came in. Took exactly one month from the time of order to the arrival... for those who are interested.




I want to make the rifle into a tactical/combat rifle. Not a range king and not eye candy. I want to be well armed for combat if the zombies invade. I want the rifle suited for close quarters urban combat as well as open field/woods combat.

Looking to put a foregrip and light on a YHM diamond forearm. But there are a few qualities that I am looking for...

1.) I want the foregrip to be tight and solid.
2.) I want the light to be bright as hell! And be able to shine a long way.
3.) If the light is water proof then even better (for when I have to crawl through the swimming pool on my top secret suburb operations).

Options...


1.) I like the tango down (I have heard they are really tight on an YHM forearm). They also have a pressure grip switch to activate a separate light. Would also like to hear about the stubby version

Tango Down. Price about $70 bucks




2.) I like the surefire because the long platform seems like it would be more stable on a Picatinny rail. (Maybe not?). I also like the option for the Kt4 turbo head conversion because of the long range beam ability. Both lights put out 225 lumens for comparison. But JEEEEEZ $195 + $625 is close to the cost of my rifle!!! I don't see the bang for the buck here, but correct me if I'm mistaken.

3.) Finally the bipod/foregrip combo. I have seen a few manufactures putting these out so I'm not going to post a picture.

**If I go separate with the light and foregrip, which light is best for my purpose?

Just want to make sure you're aware, Tangodown grips don't have a switch in them. What they have is pocket for a switch, and a plug to put in it if you aren't using one. Also, the tight fit you have heard about with YHM rails is for the original style with spring loaded cross bars. The style you have pictured is the new quick-detach grip, and can be adjusted to fit off-spec rails. The stubby is shorter, but still long enough to hang onto with a few fingers. You lose the ability to integrate a pressure switch and lose storage capacity inside the grip. I would worry about the sureness of my grip on a stubby if my thumb was busy actuating a flashlight tailcap, but that's just a guess because I've never handled one.

You are not mistaken. That is a very specialized item, and if you aren't sure you need it, you probably don't. A separate light and VFG will give you the options to run either one or the other, or both, or none, and in different combinations of positions.

I would suggest you think a little more about what you want to use a light for, and what you want to spend and we'll be able to better offer some suggestions. Consider that there is a trade-off on lights between throw and spill. A light that will throw a long distance may not have enough spill to light up a whole room. Also consider that bright as hell is not all that it seems. Lighting up a white room with too many lumens is most uncomfortable if your pupils are dilated for the dark.

My rifle is set up with an old style Tangodown grip, and a Surefire M962 mounted to the weak side of the rail. I keep a 120 lumen lamp in it unless I plan to use it outdoors. Then it gets a 225 lumen lamp. I only use the tape switch about half the time.

You might also consider a gas block mount and compact light like a SF X300 or Streamlight TLR, if you aren't dead set on using a VFG.

I was surfing ar15parts.com today and seen where CrimsonTrace is set to release a combo unit laser/light in a foregrip. Sadly they did not hint on the exact date or price tag. Hope you find what you are looking for

A fairly inexpensive setup that throws a good amount of light. It positions the tail cap of the flashlight where it can be activated by your thumb. Of course, you can always run a pressure switch to the VFG if you like.
