Of these movies, which is the best? I am looking for gunplay realism, quality action, and interesting story.

Briefly explain your choice. Thanks

Boy, I must be living under a rock. I haven't seen any of those movies, so I guess I would want any or all of them on DVD. However, I did like the gun play in Heat and in John Woo's movies such as Face Off and Hard Boiled.

Pulp Fiction for 4 reasons...

1) Shows a fine example of a ND :uhoh:
2) The audio isn't rolled back too much for gunshots (at least it wasn't when I saw it in the theatre) :D
3) Interesting non-connected story, put together rather well
4) It's the only one on the list I've seen:eek:

(I'm a Matrix, Alien, and Terminator fan myself:evil: )

Well another one here under a rock...hadn't seen these either.

Write in vote for We Were Soldiers ( I actually own this one).

Others: Heat, Full Metal Jacket, Platoon, Silverado, Quigley Down Under,The Sacketts, Blackhawk Down, Dirty Dozen...and numerous old b/w cowboy, military movies of old.

Plot was, well bad to say the least, but I liked the 1911 handling in The Way of the Gun, and James Caan's revolver skills.

I'd have to go with Reservoir Dogs. Pulp Fiction comes a close 2nd.

I think Reservoir Dogs is the best on the list. It uses the most basic and simple setting yet is able to portray an intricate and intriguing plot. It's really fast paced and has excellent dialogue. Well written with an excellent cast to back it up.

Your list of movies does follow a theme of good drama with a little gunplay thrown in. Thus, it could have had Heat on the list, but I think most people would have been significantly biased towards Heat over the Tarentino films and the others since it is well known for the bank shootout scene; and this being a forum for firearms enthusiasts, many of the members have seen Heat.

Casino, Snatch, and Traffic are also good films. I think Traffic was one of the top 100 movies of all time (I have the Criterion DVD). Casino ranks up there with Goodfellas, in my book. Snatch is more of a comedy than a drama. Probably should have been excluded from the list. Romeo Must Die was actually pretty good, too, but it doesn't hold a candle to the Tarentino films, Traffic, or Casino.

Personally, I didn't like Corruptor. It had way too much drama and not enough good action as in Chow Yun Fat's Hong Kong movies.

Haven't seen Narc or Carlito's Way.

So yeah, assuming I didn't have it on DVD already, I'd take Reservior Dogs DVD over the others.

My favs you didn't list in the poll:

- Heat
- Ronin
- Blackhawk Down

I also liked We Were Soliders, but the story line is a real downer.

I'm suprised that so many have not seen Pulp Fiction.
Truly great entertainment.
If you haven't seen it run, don't walk, to Blockbusters.

L.A. Confidential.
Last Man Standing.
Heat.
Quigley Down Under.
The Usual Suspects.

I did like some on your list, but I think it'd be nearly impossible to get a list with all the good ones.

Seen all of those except for Carlito's Way, can't say I'd really give a crap about getting any of them on DVD. If I had to pick one I'd get Res. Dogs or Pulp Fiction I guess. But they're kinda "cult classics" and you may or may not like them...

Of those that I've seen I'd have to say the Corruptor, but my #1 choice would be "Way of the Gun" and my number 2 if you're in a 15 shot 1911 mood would be "Last Man Standing".

One of the great quotes from way of the gun: "I don't think this is exactly what you'd call a "Brains" type operation."

I chose Narc only because Way of the Gun, Heat, and Black Hawk Down are absent.

IMO, Pulp Fiction, Reservoir Dogs, and Snatch are the least compatable with your parameters. I enjoyed them all but they do not cut it for action, adventure, and realism.

Thanks for the responses.

I already have most of the well known great gun movies such as Heat, Way of the Gun, Blackhawk Down, etc.... That is why they weren't included on the list.

I am looking for some more good gun movies, and this list are the ones that caught my eye at the DVD store.

Edited because Beretta92F already posted the "Replica" vs. "Desert Eagle Point Five O" quote - probably one of the better gun movie quotes of all time.

Here are some other random quotes from the DVD I'd choose:

"Bricktop: Do you know what nemesis means? A righteous infliction of retribution manifested by an appropriate agent. Personified in this case by a 'orrible ****. Me."
-----------------------
"Bricktop: Go and put the kettle on.
Turkish: You take sugar?
Bricktop: No thank you, Turkish. I'm sweet enough."
-----------------------
"Turkish: What is a gun doin' in your trousers?
Tommy: For protection.
Turkish: Protection from what? Zee Germans? What's to stop it blowin' your bollocks off every time you sit down?"
-----------------------
"Turkish: Well why didn't you bust a cap in his a** then Tommy? Mind you, you'd do more damage if you threw it at him.
Tommy: What? You saying I can't shoot?
Turkish: Oh no Tommy, I wasn't saying you can't shoot. I know you can't shoot. "
-----------------------
"Mickey: Hey Ma! Come have a look at the size of this fella! Bet you box a little, can't you sir? Aye. You look like a boxer."
-----------------------
"Mickey: Ahhhh save your breath to cool your porridge. Now look, she wants a hack with two roof light ??????? and uh, scour cushions with matching checkpoint cover. Yeah. Right.

And she's terribly partial to periwinkle blue boys.

Have I made myself clear boys?

Turkish: Yeah, that's perfectly clear Mickey, yeah. Just give me one minute to confer with my colleague. (to Tommy) Did you understand a single word of what he just said?"
-----------------------
"Cousin Avi: Speak English to me Tony. I thought this country spawned the ******* language, and so far, nobody seems to speak it."
-----------------------
"Customs Agent: Anything to declare?
Cousin Avi: Yeah, don't go to England."

-Snatch-

:D

Like a couple other posters, I'd add "Ronin" as an excellent choice, but, IMHO, "Pulp Fiction" has all the requisite Movie elements in perfect balance:
Plot twists, multiple "arcs", one-of-a-kind characters, comedy-drama in balance and a lot of blood, guts, gunplay & one great sword scene!

Plus, Samuel Jackson is my current favorite actor. A sequal would be nice!

Extreme Prejudice is a good one for gunplay involving most every type of firearm. The hero's operation of a Combat Commander is the focus of a couple of wonderful shots.

I voted for Casino, though it's a tough choice against Reservior Dogs and Pulp Fiction.
If Last Man Standing had been on the list, it would have gotten my vote. It's a charming little film where Bruce Willis kills everyone in Texas and most of Northern Mexico with a pair of 1911's.
