High all. After debating replacing the fixed sights on my 22/45 I got to thinking that I'd like to try going the optics route. I've no experience with pistol mounted optics of any kind, and while I see much enthusiasm for the Burris FastFire, I think I'd like to first try something in the sub $100 range.

I have the standard Weaver mount for the Ruger, but any suggestions for a different mount would be welcomed as well.

Thanks!

I have a Millet (under a $100) and a Ultradot (little over a $150) Both good but I like the Ultradot much better.
Looking at the Truglo for my grandsons MK, Midway has them for $45 and OK reviews. It clamps on, so no rings.

I had purchased a Bushnell TRS 25 to put on my AR as a cheapo option, but then came across a good deal on another/better/pricier red dot.

The TRS-25 was already on its way so I just decided to keep it. Ordered a rail for my Buck Mark, and put the TRS-25 on there. I have never had so much fun with that pistol!

They sell for anywhere from $70-$90

That Millett looks promising, especially given the reviews.

I had completely forgotten about the TRS-25, was going to get one for my .22 AR but sold the rifle before I did. My only concern with the Bushnell is the slightly smaller tube diameter. Tell me Holdencm9, did you buy a riser to mount on the BM or right to the rail?

Among other Red Dot sights I have about two dozen ($30) BSA Red Dot sights.
For years I have been using these cheap sights on everything from 12 ga shotguns......

While I don't recommend a $30 Red Dot sight (actually I make it a point to not recommend anything) these inexpensive sights have worked so good for me.
I always have a couple spares on hand.

(the three color version sucks)

Thanks for the info guys.

Those BSA red dots DO WORK. I've had a couple throughout the years myself, however slightly larger than what I'm looking for this application.

I swung by Cabela's today to touch and feel those that were mentioned. They had no Milletts, but they did have the TRS-25 which I really liked. The clerk also showed me some Sightmark reflex offerings which were also pretty neat, but I think I'm going to get the Bushnell.

I'm currently using three Bushnell TRS 25s...two on ARs and one on a Glock. I love 'em. 3 m.o.a. dot, plenty bright, and a lifetime warranty! What's not to like. Battery life is in the 3000 hour range.

Here's a Glock with one of the older, larger, heavier, inferior red dots attached:

Looks like a Ruger charger in a modified Archangel kit.
Correct, except the kit is factory. Just bolt on.

I saw it at a gun show. It was so weird I had to buy one. About $125 as I recall.
