Original seal from 1999/2000 is separating from door. My options are to re-attach existing or put on different seal.

Is the existing seal a fire seal? If not, should I switch to intumescent fire caulk with the boiler type flat gasket?

Thanks!

That looks like a plain rubber seal. If you have boiler gasket material in a suitable size, that sounds like a good idea, or you could just glue that back.

It has an RSC sticker on it, so may not have much of a fire rating as is. Better seals are never a bad thing on anything.

Can you call the company and ask them?
Yes, called them yesterday. They advised to call an AMSEC dealer. I called dealer. They didn't seem to understand this model only has one seal on door (I think modern versions have body and door seal). Could not help me.

I have an AMSEC from around that time, or real close. Don't recall it having a seal on it, need to check now. If it does, it is flat and one both sides, not like what is in your pic.

I just picked it up last week, it's a really nice little unit. Date of manufacture is Q4 of 1999. I'd love to see a pic of what you have on yours.

Just checked mine, made 3rd qtr of 99 (same sticker as yours). I bought mine new back then. It has a single, black, hard piece of material, about 1/2in wide and 1/8in thick on the safe side. I would not bet on it, but I don't think I added that "seal". However, I think yours may have been added as I don't think I have ever seen one like that on a "safe" before, but I am a long ways from being an expert on things like this.

Does yours have the black seal on the safe side?

Thank you for checking. Nope, just has the seal on the door. 1" wide with the triple fin design. I haven't seen one like it before. Very odd.

My homemade Fort Knox knockoff has what appears to be the same seal as the original. Flat braided fiberglass, same as the door seal on my wood stove.
It might be something better on a real Fort Knox..

Just an observation since I don't own a safe, but that sure looks like the weatherstripping I replaced on the bottom of my front door. Yours looks like it was made to fit in your safe's door channel.
