Soon I will be traveling to North Carolina while there I intend to purchase a handgun from a friend and it will be necessary to ship it to myself in North Dakota since it will be several month before I get back there myself.

What I am throwing out there for suggestions is what do you guys feel is the most reputible carrier delivery service to use. I know it has to go overnight and I know that my brother in law can sign for it as long as it is sent to me in-care-of him.

Any carriers suggestions to consider or avoid.

Thanks

Both UPS and FecEx AS CORPORATE ENTITIES have roughly the same track record. Mostly problem free with the occasional horror story about lost / stolen property. The problems you'll encounter (if you do a search) occur at the counter: lots of the "we can't ship that" secondary to lack of policy knowledge or liability issues.

IIRC, out of state firearm purchases must go through an FFL licensee in the buyers jurisdiction prior to the buyer taking possession of the firearm. The Firearms Law Center might be worth perusing prior to your purchase.

Ship it via FedEx.

Of course, I'm a FedEx package handler, so I might be a bit biased. :D Support your fellow High Roaders and all that jazz. :D

Ummm, sorry...

Unless you are a licensed firearms dealer (type 01 FFL, not a type 03 C&R collector), you canNOT ship a handgun via the Postal Service. Bad juju, big penalties.

Unless they've changed the law while I've been working two jobs (...hope springs eternal...)?
