I'm in the market for some personal defense ammo for my Glock 19 and Glock 26. I'm leaning towards some Speer Gold dots. Has anyone found them on sale anywhere. I'm seeing about $20 for 25 most places. Any other recommendations for a high performing hallow point at a better price?

Online places like Ammunition To Go tend to have them in the 50-round boxes that law enforcement buy them in, for only a little more than a 20-round.

No idea why they don't just sell them like that to the public. Even on ATG, the 20-round boxes aren't that much cheaper than the 50-rounders.

Georgia Arms uses speer gold dots in there defence loads. Theybhave to advertize as speer unicor core bonded bullets but same bullet. Good ammo the always has meat the advertized velocity at a great price.-http://georgia-arms.com/new9mmluger124grgolddothollowpointp50pk.aspx

A few years ago I found a really competitive deal on GunBroker for 500 rounds...you may check there if you are buying bulk

I use the Federal 115 gr 9pble in the white box. Its a +p+ round and you get 50 for less than $20 at most places. From what I understand its the older version of Hydra Shoks, I've seen them called "Hi Shoks" but I'm not sure if that's a correct term. Older design bullet with a proven track record.

I would second Gunbroker, especially if you're not completely set on one particular load. My current carry ammo wasn't what I was looking for, but I found a smoking deal on 200 rounds of Federal 124 grain +P+ Hydrashocks. I also found an awesome deal on 200 rounds of Federal frangible ammo for my old club's indoor range.

As has been said, GaArms ammo is the gold dot bullet and they are good folks to deal with. Also, ammoman.com has 9mm Gold Dot, if you get 10 boxes or more.

I reliably find Speer GDHP 9x19mm 124 grain +P for fifty cents a round at the nearest gun show, flawless rounds packed neatly into clear clamshell 50x boxes rather than in factory package. I suspect that someone is getting their hands on bulk and re-packing it, so I am forced to accept a nice re-useable clamshell ammo box each time I buy.

Bought 100 rounds today, that guy is at all the local shows pretty reliably, I just wish he has a similar setup for .45acp

ATG has raised their prices since the last time I looked. They used to be $25-$28 for a box of 50 now they want $35-$40. I usually buy from them, Palmetto or Widener's. I'm not paying $40 a box, though.
