The economy models didn't stay in production very long...likely a failed business plan that got a re-think
The re-think was called "Sigma".
The economy 915 was a stopgap until they could introduce this polymer/striker fired pistol.
An side note is that they made a well thought out design feature that unfortunately didn't take into consideration consumer's ability to deceive themselves...the SW380. I pistol selling for $200-250 that was simple and pretty foolproof to operate aimed at a very specific market. Unfortunately, folks, who would likely only fire maybe a magazine or two, were offended by an expected service life of only 2500 rounds
The best old S&W auto, accuracy-wise would be a Model 52 in .38 Special.
Next a Model 39-2 or a 59, for those that complain about the DA trigger, these will solve that problem. They are a long pull, but a very good one.
