OK, the "best gun movie" thing has been beaten to death (and then some)...but what about the best SONG involving guns...Not so many to choose from I think, but I'm sure we know of a few...

I'll save mine for later after I see what y'all can come up with....

The Ballad of Irving ("the hundred-and-forty-second fastest gun in the west")

Cows with Guns

Big Iron on His Hip

Praise the Lord and Pass the Ammunition

pax

Pixeleen / Steely Dan

pixeleen

Our man Abu squeezes off 20 tracer rounds
And that's when she jumps the turnstile
And as she clings to the roof of the speeding train
The Double A down to Sheridan Square
Her cell phone rings
It's, like, her stupid father
Be in the door by ten - again

[Chorus:]
Pixeleen
Dream deep my three times perfect ultrateen
Pixeleen
Born in the bogs of Jersey
Trained to love and spy hard
Dropped on the streets of Roppongi
Soaked through on the floor of a noodle shop

And when Abu rams the clip in the miniglock
Up on the catwalk inside the warehouse
You whip a knife from the top of your go-go boot
With just a flash of spectacular thigh
Your pager starts to throb
It's your as-if boyfriend Randall
Better keep it real - or whatever

Just gets better ! Love Steely Dan..Love this tune!

Heartbreaker by the Rolling Stones. How about the band named .38 special. Gimme three steps by Lynyrd Skynyrd.;)

I was always partial to the Grateful Deads' arrangement of "I've been all around this world":

"Up on the Blue Ridge mountain, there I'll take my stand
A rifle on my shoulder, six-shooter in my hand"

Also has the lyrics:

"Lulu, my Lulu, come and open the door
Before I have to walk on in with my old forty-four"

Pretty grim; it's about a man hanged for murder. Than again, pretty much all folk songs were.

i know there must be some...the only two coming to mind right now because he had lots of songs with guns

Lawyers Guns and Money
Roland the Headless Thompson Gunner

:)

Gimme Back My Bullets? >_>
I always thought that Skid Row song was funny...
These two kids.
Are underage drinking, and on drugs...
One steals his dad's gun, and the other kid is all "LOL DUDE SHOOT ME"
And does.

Guess what? The song is anti-gun
The kids are drinking and using drugs, stealing, and the song is anti-gun.

Aerosmith

"Janie's Got A Gun" ..not The Best..not really that Good..But it's got "gun" in it over 50 times! :O)

Good revenge tune..not "anti-gun."

charlie daniels "Same Ole Me" mentions them

im gunna keep my guns
have my fun.....

hank williams Jr "country boy can survive"

But he was killed by a man with a switchblade knife
For 43 dollars my friend lost his life
Id love to spit some beechnut in that dudes eyes
And shoot him with my old 45
Cause a country boy can survive
Country folks can survive

both songs really only mention them but they are all i can think of

I'll put a second vote for Roland

Roland was a warrior from the land of the midnight sun
With a thompson gun for hire
fighting to be done

And this from the Grateful Dead's Uncle John's band

god damn well I declare
have you seen the like
their walls are built of cannon balls
their motto is "don't tread on me"

"Tennessee Stud" - Doc Watson
"Boy Named Sue" - Johnnie Cash
"Railroad Bill" - folk song performed by many, including Cisco Houston

JT

AC/DC - For those about to rock.

Raliegh & Spencer redone by Tony Furtado - "May the man that stole my darlin' girl feel the bite of my .44"

Sublime - Santaria - "Daddys got a new .45. And I won't think twice to stick that barrel straight down Sancho's throat."

The Police - Invisible Sun - "...lookin' down the barrel of an Armalite"

I know this one is not meant to be gun related but I can't help but like the last line.
Sheryl Crow - Soak up the sun - "Got my 45 on So I can rock on.":p

Roland the Thompson Gunner (Warren Zevon)

Best ballad of all time, and also the best "gun" tune. (In my limited experience, of course.)

Gun-song Honorable Mention: "Carmelita" (written by Warren Zevon, recorded by Linda Ronstadt)

Always been partial to Seven spanish Angles and Don't Take Your Guns to Town.

During my divorce I really liked Delia ,a lot. Perhaps too much

Wrong "45"

"Sheryl Crow - Soak up the sun - 'Got my 45 on So I can rock on.'"

That's SPF 45 sunblock, ace. ;)

And wasn't the "gun" John Lennon sang about a hypodermic needle?

Speaking of Beatles, don't forget Lorne Greene's contribution to music, "Ringo!" :D

The Clash

"The Guns of Brixton"

When they kick at your front door
How you gonna come?
With your hands on your head
Or on the trigger of your gun

When the law break in
How you gonna go?
Shot down on the pavement
Or waiting on death row

You can crush us
You can bruise us
But you'll have to answer to
Oh, the guns of Brixton

The money feels good
And your life you like it well
But surely your time will come
As in heaven, as in hell

You see, he feels like Ivan
Born under the Brixton sun
His game is called survivin'
At the end of the harder they come

You know it means no mercy
They caught him with a gun
No need for the Black Maria
Goodbye to the Brixton sun

You can crush us
You can bruise us
Yes, even shoot us
But oh-the guns of Brixton

When they kick at your front door
How you gonna come?
With your hands on your head
Or on the trigger of your gun

You can crush us
You can bruise us
Yes, even shoot us
But oh-the guns of Brixton

Shot down on the pavement
Waiting in death row
His game is called survivin'
As in heaven as in hell

You can crush us
You can bruise us
But you'll have to answer to
Oh, the guns of Brixton
