Klingon Disruptor Cannon

Going by what I have seen so far

It would appear that a lot of people would feel very well armed with a combination of the following.

Handgun: Glock (insert model here) or 1911 (insert brand here)

Rifle: AR 15 or AK/Saiga/AK variant

Shotgun 870 Remington or Mossberg500/590

Grouping one;
Rifle; .45LC lever action (Marlin?)
Handgun; Ruger Blackhawk .45 Convertible (.45 ACP/.45LC)
Shotgun; Mossberg 500
Advantages; only need to stock components for two types of ammo (.45 ACP and LC can share primers and bullets, already have plenty of brass cases for both), punches *BIG* holes in things, cartridges are low pressure so wear and tear is greatly reduced
Disadvantages; ammo is bulky and "heavy", limited capacity and slow reloading in all three firearms

Grouping two;
Rifle; Ruger 10/22 or Savage Mark II bolt-action for small-animal hunting
Handgun; Kimber Custom II 1911 .45ACP
Shotgun; Mossberg 500
Advantages; .22 good for small game and cheap practice, bolt action can handle any available .22 cartridges, from Shorts and CB's to hypervelocity, 1911 for hunting larger game/personal defense

Rule-Stretching grouping three, four guns;
Rimfire; 10/22 or Savage Mark II for small game/practice
Rifle; .45LC lever
Handgun; Ruger Blackhawk .45 Convertible
Shotgun; Mossberg 500

Money is no object ain't happening. Get over it.

Picking the three guns is fun though.

Work hard, save and keep buying guns and build many different "three gun" sets.

That way when you need to grab three guns and go, you have a choice of each tailored to your anticipated AO .

Oldies but Goodies

Assuming dual use (hunting and protection) my choices would be:

Rifle: Marlin 336 30-30 (pre-safety)
Handgun: 1911
Shotgun: Winchester 1897 (28" field gun)

As important as the weapon, is the flexibility and availability of the ammunition. The Marlin is time-tested and dependable for the hunting of most mammals in the lower 50, with the right load / distance, presents a formidable defensive weapon, and is incredibly durable (forged steal receiver, etc. - carry a screwdriver and some basic cleaning supplies and you are good on maintenance for the next 60 years). The .45 round is obviously a proven defensive round, but up close, within arrow range, it would work for medium sized game as well. The Winchester 1897 is an established field gun (over 100 years now), and if you haven't heard of slam-fire or "trench broom" Google it.

I own the 3 guns listed. I have shot, and in some cases own/owned AR, MP5, Glock, various other H&K, Sig, Rem 700, Win 70, and many more. They are many wonderful tools out there... but for this scenario, I would choose the 3 I listed above.

:) I'll play in the spirit of the OP:

1 Rifle - Remington Model 721 .30-06 - I can do damn near anything with it.

1 Shotgun - Browning A5 Series "Light 12" - It's just the best shotgun I've ever used.

1 Pistol - Smith and Wesson Model 19, 4 inch barrel - It's accurate, potent, and still very concealable.

There you go :)
