I've always found buyers for my guns locally, but for the first time I'm selling one to someone in another state. I'm going to be shipping to his verified FFL (I'm good with that part I think). He bought it off of a posting I had on Armslist (as well was was posted here), but I can't get any feedback or history on him and want to be as safe as possible.

My question is what type of payment do you usually ask for USPS money order, cashiers check, etc.?

Any suggestions on the safest way to handle this type of transaction would be best.

    Thanks,
    Timmy Tuna

It's my understanding that a USPS money order is about the safest way.

Western Union rocks when it comes to accountability at both ends.

A money order or cashier's check is ok. Just make sure they're authentic before you ship. There have been problems with money orders.

I also accept personal checks, but only after they've cleared w/a ten day wait.

Cash is good. That way you can keep the cash and claim you never got it. (Just kidding of course. But I have had people send me cash for smaller items.)

I've used USPS money orders and certified checks. In both cases, I call the issuer to verify before cashing them or shipping the item.

    No issues yet.

Had a deal like this not too long ago. USPS money orders have been counterfeited-not 100% safe. Whatever you deposit let it sit 10 business days before shipping anything.

I let a buyer in Indiana (3 states away) get passed over for a FTF deal. There are too many loopholes and unknown cracks out there now...

with regards to UPSP money orders being counterfeited......you should be able to have them verified and cashed at any post office.

USPS Money Order IF you can cash it on the spot. Not all POs will have enough cash for a large cashing. That's the issue. W. Union should be GTG. Otherwise, a personal or bank check/MO, or USPS MO you cash at your bank, should sit for 10 days before shipping if you want to be ultra-safe. You could also call a bank to verify authenticity of the bank check/MO.

USPS MO is the only way I do it. Even a small PO can tell you if the MO is good or not, and you can cash/deposit at any bank, knowing it's good. Western Union is good for the seller but verboten for a buyer. Once the money goes, there's no way to get it back and WU doesn't care-- all they do is transfer money, and they don't care if you're sending money to Nigeria.

You can check the number on a POMO online to see if it's valid or not too.

Will a bank cash a Money Order if you do not have an account?
Do they hold it against your account till it clears?

There is no 100 percent safe way. Be warned.
