Big Bore EDC

Except for my j frame, when I carry it is normallr in a crossdraw or a shoulder rig. It is comfortable while seated or in a car and plenty accessible.

I sure do. I was really impressed with performance tests of the Hornady Critical Defense 165 gr .44 special rounds so I decided to add it to my carry rotation. Especially since It's just as easy to carry my Charter Arms Bulldog Classic in .44 special as it is to carry my Kimber K6S, Taurus 905, or Charter Arms Professional.

N frames and, on occasion, X frames. I don't particularly enjoy it, but it's tolerable. The secret, for me, is a steel-lined leather belt, paired with non-stretch (minimal or no elastic) suspenders. OWB is better, but IWB works, with the right holster. (I like Tucker, myself.)

Outside of special circumstances, though, I figure the .357 ought to do, so my limit these days is a K frame...

The revolver is a S&W Model 22-4, 45 ACP, 4” barrel, fixed sights. The holster is a modern version of the Sunday Scabbard originally designed as a concealed carry holster for trouser belts. The belt is an off the shelf belt I got years ago. The holster was built to accept that belt. The combination is superb!

Question: Does your favorite big bore revolver and ammo really perform all that much better than modern .38.+Ps or the tamer loaded .357s?

Question: Do you really handle your big bore as well as a "lesser" sized gun and ammo?

I’m gonna get into reloading 44 special—after I incentivise myself by getting one of these: IMG_0419.jpeg

I have the hots for the model 629-10 “Bounty Hunter“, lock and all. I know it’s a 44 maggie, but my beat up hands will love specials through it. Edited to add info—I’d carry this in a Simply Rugged Sourdough Pancake holster at 3:30 or a JM Custom kydex appendix holster. I carry a 4 inch Ruger GP100 in these methods just fine. I’d load it with Buffalo Bore 44 special 200 grain wadcutters for defense.

see if you like reloading with these simple + cheap Lee Loaders, about $38. Make all the ammo your components allow!

Yes. Training is the obvious key. Terminal ballistics are worth any downsides you could name.
Big bullets, big holes. Big sigh of relief.
