I know we have the sticky at the top of the Autoloader page, but has anyone considered a chart for the "Big Pocket" Autos? There are so many choices just barely over the limit for the pocket auto list. It would also be a great reference for carry guns not in a pocket as well where width can be an issue. I would be more than willing to help with this. Maybe a 6" min. and 6.75" length max? We could follow the same criteria as Bobo's list. I sent him a message and hopefully he will chime in.

I'm 6'3" - 208 lbs. and have pretty big pockets.:D

Not going by any charts but I have 2 .45acp "pocket autos. My ALL TIME favorite is para ordnance LDA with 3" barrel and 6+1 capacity. The other is taurus millinium pro .45acp. Both are small but the para is the mercedes of autos. The dao trigger on the LDA para is SO light and smooth, the very first time I felt 1,I thought the damn thing was broke. Only 5 pound trigger dao pull,it's the ULTIMATE dao on the market.

trackaddict88,

My offer is still open. I would be willing to compile the chart if someone is willing to provide the photos and specs.

For my part, I would be willing to work with ONE person providing the input to me. I don't want to deal with all the correspondence that would be necessary from a number of providers.

Just a warning, many specs. on manufacturers web sites and in their catalogs are not accurate and may not be acquired the same way by all manufacturers. Also some manufacturers and/or distributors weren't very inclined to answer questions from me so I could make the specs in the "pocket gun" chart compare "apples-to-apples".

The most common problem is weight. Most manufacturers don't say if the weight they give is with or without a magazine. After asking them, most were without a magazine. Then I had to get the weights of their standard magazines from them.

I then had to compute the average weight of a round of that caliber to determine the "fully loaded" weight.

I don't have a number for the average weights of .357SIG, .45GAP, we will probably need that info.

I think you'll find that there are going be a lot of guns in the "big pocket gun" category. You may want to keep the main parameters pretty tight or you'll end up with a huge book rather than a chart.

I am not happy that the present "pocket gun" chart had to go to two pages because of the number of guns. It makes it much harder to compare sizes when you must flip from page to page.

Just the Taurus Millennium series, Springfield XD series, and S&W M&P series alone will probably be close to 100 guns. They all come in many different finishes, calibers, barrel lengths, magazine sizes, sights, etc. And when you get into guns like SIGs you have many different action options also. Each combination of options in these guns will have a unique MSRP that will change from time to time.

For many of the guns you will have to give more than one capacity, overall height, and fully loaded weight figure. As an example, I'm thinking of the XD .45 Compact that comes with a 10 round and a 13 round magazine.

I'm not trying to discourage you. I just want you to be forewarned of the amount of effort it will most likely take. I'm willing to make the commitment if you are!

Bobo

Guns such as the mini-Glocks, S&W M&P compact, CZ RAMI, H&K P2000SK and others can fit into large pockets, but are really better as very compact belt guns IMO.

I agree. A chart will make this easier to see.

Width and weight make a big difference in a pocket. Too heavy a gun wants to swing in baggy pants. Wait a minute- Too heavy of a HANDGUN wants to swing in baggy pants.:D

I've put a mini-Glock and M&P in cargo pant pocket pockets. The wide, squared-off slides make them look like large paperback books stuffed in the pocket. The CZ RAMI appears to be slimmer. I like the Kahr PM9 for pocket carry better than any of those.

Height figured the same

Width is overall width of all things sticking out of the gun.

Have I got it?

Yes, that's correct. It's as if you built a rectangular box that the gun would fit into perfectly. The inside dimensions of the box would be the same as the overall dimensions of the gun.

So all protuberances such as sights, mag catches, decockers, safeties, etc. would be included.

There you have it. Get an accurate weight WITH an emply mag if you can.

Trackaddict.

PS-Thanks Bobo.

I'm 5-8. I carry my Taurus PT-145 in a DeSantis Nemesis pocket holster a lot in my cargo shorts a lot. The slash opening is the determining factor for me. When I shop for shorts/pants that's what I look for. I sure as heck don't feel underpowered with 10+1 of 230gr Golden Sabers in my pocket and a spare mag on the weak side.

Thanks, Bobo. I hope this works out and that it happens. I have often used your subcompact chart.
