I particularly hate the bear defense threads because they seem to go on forever, complete with caliber discussions. Eventually someone almost always tells the joke about filing off the sights so it won't hurt too much when the bear takes the gun and....

I'm getting better: I used to feel compelled to read the bear defense threads. Now I can mostly ignore them.

You've got the people that don't hunt/have never tried it that yell about "humane kills" (even though deer run when shot with .30 caliber loads all the time), then you've got the hunters who use it all the time trying to convince the poor guy that he's fine, just pick your shots. AGREED!!! But no such thread is truly complete until it contains the phrase "clear leather". As in:
