So is O'Reilly a convicted felon after his little run in with the war on some drugs? Or did he weasel his way out of that?

Not sure it helps our cause to have a gassbag like this on "our side".

    O'Reilly's a man of convictions...

I don't always agree with his convictions but I do feel like he is a man who is open to being persuaded in the face of compelling evidence. That's an admirable trait in the "my way or the highway" media... :)

For Bill O'Reilly, this is a real epipheny. He just made more progress on the gun issue in one week than he has in all the years he's been in the media.

We should savor our victories, small as well as large.

Funny you should mention this, because just a few days ago a friend of mine called me to ask my advice on what rifle to purchase. He doesn't own one, and after seeing the coverage of the mess in NO, he thinks that as a responsible father and husband he really needs to get one, and start learning how to use it. I was happy to hear this, and we talked about the various options available to him for about an hour. He thinks he has finally decided he wants one of the M-4geries available, combined with a reflex type sight. We are going shopping for one for him this weekend. Should be fun.

So anyone care to hazard a guess what type and calibre he chooses if he sees this through?

I don't know enough about him, so I am just gonna guess wildly that he will get a .40 S&W pistol that is double action.

I was meaning to post something about this when I returned from my weekly trucking expidition to Chicago....I listen to FoxNews TV broadcasts on XM radio when I'm in the truck and I heard Bill saying on his TV show something to the effect "You can no longer count on the police to protect you, so you'd better figure out how to protect yourself".

He didn't say anything about getting a gun of his own on the TV Factor, but I thought his comments were pretty startling for a major media figure.

I watched his bio on Biography...seems like a pretty squared away guy. Tried liquor once, didn't like the feeling of being out of control, never took a drink again. Also, played football in college and was what could have been considered a BMOC, yet stayed away from casual sex. Looked incredibly like Tom Hanks in his youth.

I don't always agree with him 100%, but I do think he's a man of conviction who's willing to listen to an opposing point of view and sometimes modify his position in the face of valid arguments. A very rare bird in today's media enviornment.

My mistake, it was Rush Limbaugh, not O'Reilly... I get them confused. Don't follow either with any regularity. Limbaugh was arrested on charges of using and acquiring opiate pain killers without a prescription.

Nope, I place little faith in ANY individual who's will & wits are so weak as to be overcome by a little recreational chemical indulgence. He's STILL a State worshipping, pompous Equus africanus, even if he's put on a pro-2nd Amendment tie. See his reported comments on post #18 of this thread.

I heard him say exactly that just a few nights ago in reference to reports of New Orleans citizens carrying guns.

Why doesn't this guy ever shut up long enough for his guest to speak?

Im pretty sure that O'Reilly was never against the ownership of guns by important people like him, only for the 'sort' of person that own AK47s.

In other words, his values remain unchanged.

I had the opportunity to watch alittle TV last night on a job. ABC World News were in a gunshop IIRC in Baton Rouge and stated that this particular shop previously averaging 15 guns a day - was now averaging a thousand a day.

    That's alot of converts.

It was on the Radio Factor, not his TV show.

I was in my favorite local gunshop a few days ago, to buy another Cowboy gun. One of the staff said "Are you here to buy your hurricane gun too?"

Apparently, they are doing a brisk business with first-time buyers.

He mentioned it again on today's Radio Factor, and he said he was getting a gun, and that serious gun control will probably be a thing of the past (since we know the govt cannot protect us).

Well, anybody want to tell that to the folks in NOLA losing their weapons? That's a major advance in "gun control" or should I say "power grab" :fire:

She's from Mississippi, just like my Mom. I betcha she's been carryin', legally or otherwise, since she was big enough to hang on through the recoil.

Mississippi women of both colors are not only the best-looking in the country, but hard-headedly realistic about the horndogs (and I mean that in a *good* way) who make up the male sex in that State.

    Snork.

Gee, I would have guessed the Bill O'Reilly would be more comfortable reaching for a loofah than a gun.

I don't think O'Reilly is nearly as much of an elistist like Imus.Although O'Reilly has stated that he supports the AWB and some licensing,he has also cleary shown that he doesn't mind the average American be armed. He wouldn't have went to bat for Ronald Dixon if he was an elistist such as Sean Penn or Don Imus.
