An official said a "small U.S. team" was involved in the operation at the compound - the official would not confirm any U.S. military involvement. An official said bin Laden resisted the assault - and was killed in the firefight.

Three other men were killed in the firefight, and a woman being used as a human shield was also killed, the officials said. There were no U.S. casualties, the officials said. The U.S. team was at the compound for about 40 minutes, officials said.

"Osama bin Laden was shot in the head during a U.S. raid, a congressional source familiar with the operation says."

What kind of gun do you think the President's messengers used to deliver justice to that scumbag?

A little part of me wishes it was a 45-70 from a lever gun to the face at close range.

But that's just my fantasy.

The CIA can't legally carry out an operation such as this. I would guess the CIA did the homework, set it up, then had seals or joint special ops pull the triggers. I heard a rumor osama was popped with a pistol.

I was having a bad day until I heard that OBL was dead and then a bad day turned into a wonderful day!

Now if we can just get rid of all those who wish he were still alive then we might just be on the right track to making this world a safer place to live in.

<edit>

If UBL had been dead, the USA would have accepted it, kidney failure or whatever cause. The Republicans would have used it in the last election.

I do believe that it was a SEAL troop who took him down, Pakistani news footage of the burning compound says more than you ever will.

I salute the actions of our military and the demise of an enemy of our country.

I just wish that his killing would end the wars, but it won't. I wish his death would bring back the friends, family and neighbors lost on 9/11, but it won't. I'm glad he's dead, I just wish it accomplished more than self satisfaction and headlines.

Enemies of the United States, take note.

Run as far as you want.

Spend all the money you want.

Make all the political connections you want.

Release all the videos you want.

Spur all the conspiracy theories you want.

Laugh at American deaths all you want.

Convince yourself of your moral correctness all you want.

Mock America all you want.

Inspire violence against the United States all you want.

We will chase every lead.
We will follow every source.
We will spill our blood.
We will spill our sweat.
We will spill our tears.
We will overturn every leaf.
We will push aside every rock.
We will trace each hint.

We will find you.
We will kill you.
We will feel no remorse.

I wholeheartedly salute the men and women of the United States Armed Forces.
God Bless You.
Thank You.

I'm watching the coverage now. Glad it was done in person and not from the air. Hell I wish I could have been the one to do it.

And they said no civilians were killed.

Well done boys (& girls?), well done! I hope that all our active military feel that they they had a part in this....for all their efforts, IMO they did.

Not to detract anything from the professionalism of our troops on the ground, but bin Laden got the better end of that bargain. In the last ten years of his life he managed to massively increase the size or our Federal government, force trillions of dollars of military spending, indirectly cause the deaths of thousands of US troops, and turn our country into a politically polarized quasi-police state which bears no resemblance to pre-9/11 USA.

In return, we gave him a quick martyr's death. And his legacy will live on as we spend ourselves into our graves fighting the wars we started to find him.

He got what he deserved, but he still won.

I'm glad he's dead, I just wish it accomplished more than self satisfaction and headlines.

You and me both both, 1911guy.

Just as a side note, I was watching this whole thing on CNN this evening, did anyone else think that John King was mildly intoxicated?
