black powder explosion kills two

Most of the black Mag was going to the military, they started using it to replace real BP for priming ignition in their big guns.

I had no idea that Black Mag was being used by the DOD. I wonder if this is an internet rumor or if it is true? I wonder where or how a person could verify DOD use?

DOD started getting away from black powder decades ago. Black powder was formerly used in spotting charges, pyrotechnics, igniters for smokeless propellent, artillery primers, etc. Black Mag and other black powder substitutes have mostly replaced black powder for military use.

OK, but where would a person verify the use? I hear these things but the internet is full of rumors, half truths and sometimes, outright lies. I find it wise to verify information before repeating it.

I mean no offence here but I do not know the people who make the comments nor do I know their experience so I must ask so I can verify.

WHile working with naval guns and field artillery in the past, I never saw anything used in piccalo tubes or priming charges but black powder. Main charges were often some sort of smokeless powder or other energetic material which was not black powder. But, this was a while ago and things do change. I can rule out nothing.
