Black Powder Ownership under 18

In various thread in this section, people have made reference to buying black powder guns while under the age of 18, and pistols under both 18 and 21. Am I correct? If so, I would be interested in the particular legalities of it.
 
I think that it varies from state to state but most states allow you to purchase black powder revolvers and rifles while you are under the age of eighteen. I bought my Remington New Model Army when I was 15. I am 41 now and still love shooting it as much as anything else that I own.
