A couple of years ago I made a bronze signal cannon for my Dad for his birthday.
I turned and bored a piece of 1 1/8" bronze shaft material. I bored with a 7/16" bit, so it's basically a .44 caliber. I made a couple of tools to go with it. A ram/bore swab and a worm.

I have a video of a test fire also..
We loaded tinfoil charges with about 1/2 teaspoon of pyrodex and damp paper towel wadding.

I love black powder stuff. This year, I'd like to get my hands on an 1858 Remington and a flintlock. I'm drawn toward a Lyman trade rifle as well as a .62 cal smoothbore.

I'm looking forward to the pictures that other people have..

Very nice work! How did you attatch the trunnions to the side of the cannon?

Thanks! I drilled through the cannon at the trunnion location with a 1/4" tap sized drill. Then used a centering 3/8" bit to drill the trunnion mortise. I used 3/8" bronze rod for the trunnions. Both the trunnion mortise and trunnions were drilled and tapped for 1/4" bronze threaded rod. The trunnions were then screwed into place with a drop of loctite. Nothing protrudes into the bore.
It was a fun project and fun to shoot as well.

Where do you shoot in Mass? I grew up there and in the past have belonged to Singletary in Sutton and Georgetown in Georgetown.

Upon getting back into blackpowder a couple of years ago after a 40 year absence I was shooting at Bob's public range in Salisbury, MA. I considered the $20 rang fee reasonable but the 60 mile drive each way was increasing the size of by carbon footprint beyond acceptable limits. I recently joined Maynard Rod & Gun which is halfway between home and work. It was a good decision.

Conversion alone. I've since stripped the Uberti red shellac off the grips which makes the pistol much nicer now in my opinion. Shoots great too, totally love it. It's definitely one of my favs.

    Some more for fun...

This was my late Pop's handmade buckskin shirt, handmade knife and tomahawk, and handmade Hawken .54. The rifle is priceless to me, a fantastic shooter and one of my favorites by far. The hat is older than me, goes back to the mid/late 60s. The lock of hair attached to the top of the hat is my aunt's hair.
