I bought 500 rounds of the brass FMJRN back in August when Gander Mountain was running a special. I don't think it was corrosive. I clean my pistols every time I fire them and I can't say that they got noticeably dirtier. What I did notice was that the brass was often more burned looking.
I don't reload so I don't know what causes that, although I've seen it when I have shot other peoples reloads. A warped cylinder on a revolver and I learned my lesson and don't shoot anything that someone else has reloaded.
I'd say if you get a good price on the brass Blazer use it. I had no real problems with it.
Blazer Brass is no dirtier than any other brand and is cleaner than some. I have used thousands of rounds of it and never had one single problem. I used to get it at Wally World but it's Federal now. I don't have any experience with the aluminum cased Blazer but I have never heard anything bad about it.
I shot 50 rounds of it, 50 rounds of Winchester white box, and 40 rounds of federal and my gun was not that dirty. Just clean your gun after each session and youll be fine.
I've never had a failure with the Blazer Brass or the cheaper aluminum cased stuff and I've used 100's of rounds out of many different calibers because it's usually the cheapest ammo at my local Bi-Mart. I've used it with 9mm, 40S&W, .45ACP and .38 special.
Blazer, whether aluminum or brass, is not corrosive, nor is it any "dirtier" than any other ammo in my experience. I would be concerned about large amounts of unburned powder, but there will always be some soot or carbon buildup. To leave nothing is a violation of the laws of physics.
I've been shooting it for a while. No issues with corrosion, but I clean the guns every time I go. No dirtier either. I did run into a series of FTEs with a box the other day though. 3 in one mag. Switched guns, 2 in the next. It was the aluminum cases. Only issue that I've ever had with them. Probably a fluke.
CCI Blazer is my preferred range ammo and is certainly not corrosive...I always try to have a couple of cases on hand for classes. I switched to Blazer from WWB because it was cleaner and I don't reload 9mm.
The only valid knock against Blazer ammo, and CCI ammo in general, is that they use harder primers. My Sig 226ST with the mainspring balanced for Federal primers will not set off any CCI 9mm ammo
I put several thousand rounds of it through a G17 going through the POST academy. I had no failures to fire, and the pistol was no dirtier or cleaner than other ammunition I've fired.
It's definitely not corrosive. It is just as dirty as any other cheap ammo. I don't buy it because I don't like to shoot aluminum cased ammo in my guns. Blazer brass is great though.
Ammo is corrosive only if it is primed with a corrosive primer. Since those have been gone for at least 20+ years, it's safe to say that anything you buy today (barring surplus) is non-corrosive. However the relative cleanliness of ammo has to do with the powder used and charge (really pressure) of the ammo. All ammo leaves unburnt powder and residue. Sometimes more expensive ammo is cleaner, sometimes not.
