I would like to load some .31141 gas checked bullets in 30-30 .
The only rifle powder I have on hand is BLC-2.
I do have Unique, Red Dot , Herco and Trail Boss but I was hoping to save those for their normal application (ie .45 Colt , .45 ACP ,etc.)
I have used BLC-2 in 30-30 with jacketed bullets ,but I see no data for cast.
If BLC-2 is gonna be a total bust with cast , then I will get something more appropriate.
Thanks in advance!

I just loaded up a bunch of them for my 30/30 with IMR 4198 18 gr I looked in all my manuals for a load with BLC-2 but found nothing
there is listed data for Unique and for reddot in the manuals I have

I found one load on Load Data.com for cast bullets in .30-30. They show 25 grains of BL-C(2) with a COAL of 2.535 giving a MV of 1553 fps.
That's for a 150 grain FN bullet cast from an RCBS mould. They claimed an accuracy of 1.43".

There are quite a few loads for Trail Boss, Unique and Red Dot should you wish to go that route.

I have used Unique with cast in 30-30 and while it was quite the fun load ,I would prefer to save the Unique I have for .45 Colt and such.
BLC-2 was on sale at the LGS so I bought a couple pounds knowing it would be good in a few rifle cartridges. I have quite a lot of the Lyman .31141 GC bullets on hand but not too many jacketed projectiles.
I'm thinking the gas checked bullets will hold up to the (I'm guessing) hotter flame cutting action of BLC-2. But that is just my guess as to why this powder is not used with cast bullets.
And thanks for the replies !

BLC2 will work very well in the .30/30 with GOOD cast bullets.

My best load in my .35Rem is with cast bullets and BLC2.
39.0gr w/200gr RCBS .358" FNGC (220gr 50/50 pure lead-wheel weight) sized .360" (for M336 Marlin w/MicroGroove bbl) lubed with SPG. Chrono's 2,050fps. Sub 2moa groups. Kills deer and pigs with alacrity.
No need for $$ jacketed bullets that were "unobtanium" '07-'15.
I suggest you start with a .311" sizing, as that works best for me in all my .30cal rifles; .300BO to .30/06

Couple of suggestions/considerations.
BLC2 being a spherical powder and on the slow end of acceptable powders for the .30/30 has a narrower envelope for operating pressures. That means the best performance will be in a narrower spread than with similar extruded powders.

Use same start/max loads you would with a jacketed bullet. Best accuracy will be in the 1,950-2,200fps range given an adequate bullet, and pressures near the top for your .30/30. I suggest a start at 28.0, max (bullet integrity, not pressure) 32.5 for ~2,100fps. Cast bullets will run 100-200fps faster than equivalent weight jacketed bullet at same pressures.
(Imagine that! 30.0gr with 160-170gr bullet, in a .30/30!!! Who'd thunk?) It's what I use with IMR3031, H4895, IMR4064, IMR4320, RL15, and (drum roll.........BLC2!).

Suggest you wander over to castboolits.com. Much more familiarity and expertise regarding things cast bullet related.

Sorry, I have never used a powder that slow with Cast bullets in the 30-06. I have used IMR4198, IMR3031 and a few others. Currently I use almost nothing other than AA5744 with Cast bullets in rifle cartridges.
