Just got in a LW 18" barrel for my 457. Got it installed, opened the channel (decided to stay with the sporter stock, like em better than the wide forends when used with stubby barrels), and got it all mounted up last night. Now that necessities are done, I cant decide if I like the way it looks. So what do you guys think, leave it bright, polish it brighter, brush finish it, beadblast it satin, sandblast it gray, or duracoat it black? If I brush or blast the barrel I'll probably do the bolt body also to match.
I've been back and forth on this very thing as it relates to my Mauser project. I think your example looks very nice. A lot of Cooper rifles came that way. I went ahead and ordered a CM barrel for the blued/blued finish, but yours has given me reason to question my decision. If I had gone with SS I'd already have it at the gunsmith being worked on.
My 40x has a wood stock, blue receiver, stainless barrel, and bolt handle and trigger guard bead blasted and left in the white.
Dunno yet, just got it together last night. Probably go try it Friday or so. Hopefully the brake (really more of a barrel extension) comes in so I can take that stupid flash hider off
I also noticed in better light this am that there's scratches I need to polish out, so it's getting some polish done either way.
Looks great! My grendel AR has the stainless barrel and parkerized muzzle brake. Camo furniture. TiN BCG and trigger. I have a W70 coyote in 270 wsm that has a black receiver and stainless barrel from the factory. I like it too. No pics though.
One of my sought after rifles has been the Cooper Jackson Squirrel rifle.....configured just as Loonwulf's. Meets my eye-appeal standards.
I think a blued action and stainless barrel don’t really go together. But a black action and any type of stainless barrel, do. The pics look good because the action looks black. But up close it might not. Then again. It’s not my gun. So my opinion is only worth what you paid for it. Whatever you kill with it won’t know, or care.
"I was against it before I was for it" No, not John Kerry. As described in the title, I would have said "no". But actually looking at it, between the nice wood, and the relatively low profile receiver, it works well together.
At most l'd bead blast, and spray paint to see if you like the color. If not, the paint strips easily, and it's cheap enough to experiment.
It's ....charcoal? Kinda.....the actions nitrided, not blued....hard to describe.....so I just said blued. I'll grab some in the light pictures. When I get home. I'm leaning more towards the keep it side myself. Tho, Would be easy enough just to see.
My 35 whelen is like that, SS barrel with a black savage action and a maple stock. Thought I would hate it but it's growing on me. Yours looks even better in those pics, but a nice finish job would look good too.
I like it just fine as is. I might would have done a bead blast finish had I ordered it but then again, maybe not. The blue on the reciver appears to be smoothly finished so perhaps the bight barrel is a good match. Looks fine, better than fine.
