Boar hunting in MI questions

i've never hunted before, and just wanted to know where i can find some public land to hunt boar on. i can't afford those private ranches.

also, once you shoot the boar, what do you do with it? you can't just leave it's carcass there, can you?

Well since your location is "hiding in my bushes" I guess it would be hard for us to know where you plan on hunting.

As far as what to do with them, If you get one under 150 pounds (200 on some sows) they are some fine eating (pork the other white meat). Most states frown deeply on people just killing and not taking the carcasses to either donate or for their own table fare. As well as most of us hunters.

How much value can that map possibly have? Is there a requirement to report when you shoot a feral pig? Not even Michigan is that restrictive... is it?

well i read it's "open harvest" on boars. so i'm not sure, but i think you don't need a hunting license.

As posted above, much anything under 200 lbs, preferably a sow is fine eating. Boar's meat stinks when cooking it, all that testosterone in the meat really, really is putrid. I do not have a weak stomach by any means, but just an fyi. I do believe in eating what you shoot. If you don't want to butcher it yourself, I'm sure you can take it to a local butcher or processor. Hope you get to hunt enjoy it and be safe!

Feral swine can be taken all year on private land with permission, and public land, with any valid hunting license or a concealed pistol license. (Page 7)

Hunters are encouraged to shoot feral swine (free-ranging pigs) year-round with any valid hunting license or a concealed pistol license. (Page 15)
