Does anyone know if body armor, particularly Point Blank Interceptor USGI body armor, is legal in CA?

Don't know about a particular brand, but....

...the pertinent CA Penal Code is:

12370. (a) Any person who has been convicted of a violent felony,
as defined in subdivision (c) of Section 667.5, under the laws of the
United States, the State of California, or any other state,
government, or country, who purchases, owns, or possesses body armor,
as defined by Section 942 of Title 11 of the California Code of
Regulations, except as authorized under subdivision (b), is guilty of
a felony, punishable by imprisonment in a state prison for 16
months, or two or three years.

Subdivision (b) discusses the procedure in acquiring an exemption for those with felony convictions whose job requires them to possess/wear body armor.

Howdy!

Most places out here refuse to sell body armor to private citizens. They require affiliation with a Law Enforcement or Security agency for private purchase.
However, there are no laws so far forbidding private ownership of body armor.

Except of course the standard felon prohibition.

Thanx for the info guys....Even w/ the info you guys gave me, i'm unsure what to do here. Let me explain my situation.

I have some Point Blank Interceptor body armor that i purchased online a while back. After seeing it collect dust in my closet for the last six months, i decided that i'd be better off selling it on ebay. The winner of the auction sent me a money order and his address, in El Cajon California.

I don't want to commit a crime by sending this item to someone that I don't know, and could potentially be a felon. If thats the case, i assume i'd be held responsible.

What do you guys think? What would you do? As of right now, i'm leaning in the direction of sending him back his money order and putting this thing back on ebay w/ a disclaimer: NO SALES TO California!

You're just as safe selling in Cali as anywhere else. This is one area where California is on the same page with the rest of the Union. Ask him if he's a violent felon, if that'll make you feel better :)

P.S. I live in California, and I currently own a IIA vest that (oddly enough) I bought off ebay.

I saw a table of body armor at the gun show in Kali this weekends. No prohibitions other than the felon thing. The seller had the sign that basically said buy them now because they're gonna be outlawed for civies soon.

I think that's the guy trying to create some hype to sell his goods. They've talked about banning civilian sales of bodyarmor for years now, no law has passed so far. IIIA is good stuff, IV is better.
